William Raymond Hildebrand (Ray)

William Raymond Hildebrand Ray

May 4, 1942 – March 1, 2024

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing to his forever home in heaven of our beloved husband and father Ray at the age of 81 years at the Grace Hospital on March 1, 2024.

He is survived by his loving wife Mary (Gerbrandt) of 58 years and sons Doug (Kaija) and Kevin (Scarlet).

Also survived by his brother Peter of Winnipeg and sister Katie of Regina, and sister in law Olga.

Predeceased by his parents Abram and Aganetha Hildebrand, brothers Abe, Jake, Ben, Dave and John. Sisters Nettie, Mary and Shirley.
Also survived by In laws Zelma and Dave Coombs, Irvin and Betty Gerbrandt, John Gerbrandt, Dorothy and Ken Froese and many nieces and nephews.

Being the second youngest in a family of 11 children he grew up on a farm in Rose Farm area. He had great memories of his childhood and of all the friends he had growing up and spoke of it often. We also visited his former homestead often although it was no longer there. Although we grew up only several miles apart in the country we did not meet until we both moved to Winnipeg. We were married in 1966 and spent over 58 years together. He worked at Canada Post for 33 years, retiring in 1999.

He was a kind, generous, soft spoken and loving gentleman.

He loved his boys dearly and missed them greatly when they moved on to pursue their careers, but was very proud of their accomplishments.

We went on several trips, one to Mexico and also took the boys to Disney World, but mostly made a lot of road trips out West to see the boys and the mountains.

He was a great handyman and enjoyed making things with hands. His idea of a great holiday was to have a project lined up whether it be at home or for family or friends.

Special thanks to all the staff at the Grace Hospital 3N for his excellent care.

Those we love don’t go away
They walk beside us every day
Unseen, unheard but always near
Still loved, still missed, and very dear
Until we meet again

At Ray’s request there will be no service. Private internment at a later date.

Voyage Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

  1. The Hildebrand Family,

We were sad see the write up of Ray’s passing. It had been a long time since we saw him. We are thinking of you all at this time.
    Take care.

  2. So sad to hear of Uncle Ray’s passing. I’ll always remember his smile and gentle humour. He was always ready to help (I remember him driving me home from dental surgery!) and had the patience of a saint. Thanks for including a great photograph of him. Our thoughts go out to Aunty Mary, cousins Doug and Kevin. Hugs from Cynthia and family.
