July 31, 1938 – December 2, 2022
Following a courageous battle with cancer, it is with overwhelming sadness we announce the passing of our dear father, husband, grandfather, brother and friend, William Diduch on December 2, 2022, at Riverview Health Center in Winnipeg, MB.
William or Bill, as he was known by most, was born in Vita, MB on July 31, 1938. William led a very full life, living in Winnipeg, Kenora and Vita. Finally returning to Winnipeg to settle and call home with his wife Kathleen and their family.
William was one of the kindest souls. He enjoyed helping everyone and was an entrepreneur at heart. He was not happy unless he was busy doing something. While living in Kenora he established a company called NorthWestern Mobile Home Sales Ltd. Once he moved to Vita, he built the Northgate Village Mobile Home Park from the ground up, where he also lived with his family. This was closely followed by his establishment of the Vita Furniture & Appliance Store. When this first store burned to the ground, he picked up the pieces and rebuilt at a new location. He also served as a Councillor while living in Vita and was an active Vita Lions Club member. William then moved with wife Kathleen and family to Winnipeg, where they purchased a home on McMeans Ave East where they resided for over 30 years. Their house became known as the “Christmas House” to many in the area as was apparent by Dads love of the Christmas season and MANY, MANY lights and decorations.
William had started a vending company called Pic A Snack, which he operated himself for many years, right up to the time he could no longer drive. Variety Club of Manitoba was his charity of choice, donating a portion of sales each year during their televised Variety Club Telethon. He received several awards for fundraising for Variety Club.
Dad was also a lifetime member of the East Kildonan Lions Club, receiving the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for dedicated humanitarian services, and several other awards during his 50 years of service. He was passionate about helping his community and he will be missed by many.
William is predeceased by his grandparents Max and Sophia Ozeranski; his parents Michael and Mary Diduch, and sister Stella Weremchuk.
William is survived by his wife Kathleen Diduch; son David Diduch (Jen); daughters Nancy Dunnec and Bev Rolsky (John); grandson William Diduch Jr; brothers Steve Diduch (Dorothy) and Morris Diduch (Nell); nephew Robert Weremchuk (Melissa) and several nieces & nephews.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Melnyk and Klinic staff; the at-home Palliative Care Team; his nurseS Sean, Jillian, Frances and Andrea; the nursing staff and doctors of ward 3E Palliative Care Unit at Riverview Health Center for their unwavering, compassionate care provided for William and the family during this very difficult time.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at 11:00 am., in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave. Winnipeg. Viewing will be from 10:30 am – 11:00 am
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a donation be made to Cancer Care Manitoba.
