Timber Brook (John Chymyshyn)

Timber Brook John Chymyshyn

With sadness the family announces the passing of Timber Brook (John Chymyshyn) after a short illness on Aug.28th, 2023 at the age of 75.

He will be dearly missed by his siblings, their spouses, nieces, nephews and friends.

Timber (known to his family as John) was born and raised in Rossdale, Mb before moving to Winnipeg in the 60’s with his parents.

In the late 70’s he began living on his own. Independence was very important to John. He liked to keep busy earning a living working on construction sites, as a school custodian, doing yard maintenance, and the list goes on.

John was a people person volunteering his time at Deer Lodge Centre transporting clients in wheelchairs, walking dogs and also working in soup kitchens. He met many people and made close friends while attending mass.

Definitely not one to sit idle, John was frequently spotted in various places all around the city. He never forgot a face and would always have a smile and a hello.

In the winter he would take the bus to get around, and in the summer, he enjoyed walking or biking. He also had a great love for food, rarely passing up on an invitation for dinner. In the past few years John faced some challenges before moving into his most recent home on Barker Street. Here he received the support he needed in order to maintain his independence and dignity.

John will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, smile and laugh.

The family would like to thank the staff at Barker Street and the Health Sciences Centre for their care and compassion.

A private service will take place at Voyage Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery.

  2. Timber will be missed by many and brought fun and smiles to a lot of people. I got to spend a lot of time with him over the past three years and he had great love for his mother and talked fondly of family when we had discussions. Timber your story of the coffee makers and of the dollarama security will be a great memory that I am happy to
Have been around to hear. Have the peace you finally get and wanted and visit with your mom that I know you longed for very much. Take care old friend.

  3. Uncle Timber (as I used to call him) was a very nice and friendly man. Very compassionate, kind hearted man. He loved to help, he would come back home and tell stories about people he helped in the community either with his money or clearing people’s compound for them. He will be greatly missed by us all at Barker. Rest in peace uncle Timber
