Scotty Frazer Hutchinson Kilpatrick

June 15, 1933 – August 19, 2022

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather Frazer “Scotty” Kilpatrick on August 19, 2022 at the Grace Hospital.

Dad will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his companion Margrit Hausammann; his children Pat (Lionel), Bonnie (Ian), Scott (Sheila), Heather (Paul), and Gordon; grandchildren Aaron (Sarah), Corrie (Jamie), April, Tyler (Ayla) Calvin (Chelsea), Scott, Hayleigh, Arleigh, Leslie and Jared; and great-grandchildren Hallee, Jessica, Gaiden, Ava, Rya, Rowan and baby boy Cline due in October. Scotty was predeceased by his wife Fernande 2004; grandson Johnathan 2015, and son Johnny 2018.

Scotty was born in Hurlford Ayrshire Scotland on June 15, 1933 and was the youngest of three children born to Helen and Frazer Kilpatrick. Dad immigrated to Canada in his early twenties and made Winnipeg his home. Dad worked many jobs in his early days. He was a cook on the SS Keenora, which is now permanently docked in Selkirk, Manitoba, The Hudson Bay Department store as the brass polisher, he drove Taxi for Veterans Nash, and drove a bus for the crippled Childress Society of Winnipeg.

Dad would strap his organ over his back, load it in the car and entertain at Legion 141 on Main Street. In 1966 dad started working at the Vaughan Street penitentiary as the head cook. He loved cooking and made many life-long friendships over a hot stove. There were times when the stoves would break down at the jail and dad would bring some of the inmates home to help cook food in our home so everyone would be fed. Dad was transferred to Headingley Correctional Institution as a cook and after a couple of years was promoted to a correctional officer but was forced to retire in 1985 due to illness. Over the years dad also worked many second jobs. Metropolitan Security, pizza delivery for Angelo’s Pizza, and floral delivery for Broadway Florist. Dad was very active in the community and worked countless volunteer hours cooking and maintaining the canteens for two of the local community clubs all while coaching his winning soccer team. He received awards for running and maintaining the canteens at Ralph Brown Community Centre and Sinclair Park Community Centre. Later in life dad became a driver for Canadian Fleet and drove thousands of miles returning cars after the devastation of 9/11. Dad loved being on the road and kept driving for Canadian Fleet for many more years, leaving his tracks all over the USA. Dad had a passion for soccer and played on a professional team in Scotland, becoming a coach in the ’70s at Sinclair Park in Winnipeg’s North End. His team won the provincial cup many years in a row, and he beamed with pride as he was so proud of those boys.

In late 2002, our mother became sick, and our dad had a new job to add to his accomplishments. He became our mothers full-time care provider and when he could no longer care for her at home. He never missed a day with her at the personal care home. With depression and failing health dad moved into Luther Home Mobility Suites in 2017, where he met his last love and companion Margrit. Margrit brought back a spark and a sense of purpose into his life. They were together every day and did everything together for the last five years and we are thankful for the time she spent with him.

Our family would like to thank all of the home care staff at Luther Home Mobility Suites; especially Dave Klein and John Klein who became his best friends and worked beyond the call of duty to help our dad keep his independence. Thank you to Poseidon Personal Care Home for dad’s care during his short stay with you and to the emergency staff and nurse Harold at the Grace Hospital for your compassionate care.

Please join us for a celebration of life on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave in Winnipeg. Private interment will be held at a later date

  1. Well Scotty I will miss your smile and great will to live. Your laughter will be souly missed. You were my second dad. You gave us so many scares through your later years. When I visited you in one of your hospital stays and u beat me in cards so bad and would laugh then tell everyone on the ward. I have great memories of Scottys food even if he wasn’t there at the event he didn’t want anybody to go hungry so he sent food.

Love you to the moon and back and keep laughing.

    1. Scotty was a super great person who I really admired for his friendliness & helpfulness and especially for the special sense of humour he had despite all the challenges he had to deal with. I loved when I would accidentally bump into him & Margrit & on one occasion his daughter & son-in-law, as well, at McDonald’s at Walmart. We always had a lot of laughs! I will really miss you Scotty!! ❤️❤️ To his beautiful family my most sincere condolences.

  5. You were a very loving, accepting and caring man. I will always think of you as my dad. When my dad passed, you gave me the biggest hug ever and I will hold onto that memory as long as I live. I wish I could list the things that I miss about you, but it is very hard to type with tears in my eyes. There are so many, many memories that I will hold close to my heart and I will never, ever forget. Rest in peace Dad. I love you so very, very much
