Santillo Capozzi

Santillo Capozzi

March 26, 1932 – February 24, 2023

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Santillo Capozzi on February 24, 2023 at the age of 90, with his family by his side.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 65 years, Anna and his two children, Michael and Maria; as well as numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews in Winnipeg, Comox BC, Italy and Australia.

Santy was born in Benevento, Italy on March 26, 1932. He was a talented accordion player, being invited to play at local events and parties – including one where he met his future bride Anna. He asked her father if he could court her but was told she was too young and to come back in a year. Sure enough, he came back those many months later, and they got engaged prior to him coming to Canada.

He immigrated to Canada in 1957, and after marrying by proxy, his wife Anna followed the next year in 1958. Like many new immigrants, the first few years working as a labourer were tough but hard work and perseverance eventually led to him starting his own business, Santy’s Concrete Ltd. in 1975, which he operated until he retired. Even after retiring, he never stopped working hard, and was always there to lend a helping hand to a neighbor or a friend. He always had a smile, and his good nature and humour will be greatly missed by his many friends, with whom he and Anna loved to socialize.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue, with viewing at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Queen of Heaven Mausoleum, 3990 Portage Ave. Those wishing to join the service virtually can do so using the following link: https://youtube.com/live/S440OnYziJU?feature=share

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, or a charity of your choice.
