It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother at the age of 89. Sue passed away peacefully at the Concordia Place Personal Care Home with her family by her side.

She was predeceased by her husband Fred; sisters Shirley and Kay; son-in-law Dayne; and granddaughter Penny.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son Ed (Donna); daughter Diane (Terry Mymko); ten grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and brother Reid (Orpha Smith).

Sue will be remembered for opening her heart and home to over 60 foster children. With the help of her friends, family and neighbors she made this world a better place. She spent many summers at their family cottage at Winnipeg Beach, berry picking and going to the beach with her children and later grandchildren. At the age of 54, she made the decision to attend Red River Community College and obtain her diploma in accounting. She graduated in 1984. Later in life, she enjoyed many hours working at the bookstore in Winnipeg Beach. Daily, she walked the mike to and from the cottage to the bookstore. Later at the age of 67, she obtained her driver’s license, giving her a new found freedom. Sue was not often without an animal at her side. Part of her family always included a dog or cat, even if it lived across the street. Sue always had a smile for everyone she met. She would be the first one to offer her hand in friendship.

The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Concordia Place for their loving and compassionate care.

A celebration of Sue’s life will be held on Saturday, December 22 at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave at Henderson Hwy.

In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, a donation in Sue’s memory may be made to The Canadian Diabetes Association, The Heart and Stroke Foundation or Concordia Place Personal Care Home.

  1. My favorite childhood memories are with your family. I couldn’t wait for Aunty Sue, Uncle Fred and Diane to come out in the summer. I would spend a lot of the time at the beach with them or at their cabin making toast. Thank you for letting me be part of your family during the summer. My deepest sympathy to Diane, Eddy and their families. Rest in peace Aunty Sue.?

  2. Sincere sympathy to Diane and Ed, whom I only really knew as children.
I remember dear Aunt Susie always as a loving and brave woman, with a wonderful sense of humour.
… And her kindness. I will always be grateful for her care of the children years ago when I was in hospital — and cherish her visiting with me years later out here in St. Andrews. My thoughts, love, and prayers are with you.

  3. I met Susan at Concordia place. I was there visiting my nana the day she moved in. Immediately I was drawn to her lovely smile and spirit. Rest in peace friend.
