Murray Ronald Seguin
April 27, 1967 – October 2, 2023

With the deepest sadness, we announce the passing of our chosen son, beloved brother, loving uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend Murray

Murray is survived by his family, Kathy & Wayne Flemington; his siblings Jennifer Allen (Dan Neil), Nicholas Rulen (Hope), Christine Burton (Todd), Andrea King (Rob) and Kathi Flemington; he was Uncle Murray to Elizabeth Bruce (Stuart), Victoria King (Michael), Isabelle King (Paige), Sophia King (Andrew), Alexandria King, Jacob Allen, Lillian Antonation (Lyndon), Sebastian Allen, Matthew Flemington (Morgan), Stephanie Heaton (Justin), Sarah Heaton, Alexis Rulen, Roxanne Rulen, Munroe Rulen and Tahlia Burton. Extended family members who were close to Murray include Auntie Kim Milne & cousins Jason Coates (Cindy), Alex Milne & Alexander Milne. Also survived by former foster father Martin Lodwick-Allen (Faye), birth mother Elma Stewart, and birth sister Karen Flello.

Murray joined our family in 1978. He attended special ed schools until age 21 following which he worked at Norshel Inc. He LOVED going to work and he made many friends there. He worked at Norshel until COVID retired him in 2020.

Music was a passion for Murray, particularly the music of Michael Jackson. He had an extensive collection of tapes and CDs that he listened to on his Walkman while reading his wrestling magazines. He participated in sports to the best of his ability throughout his life. He earned many medals from participation in Special Olympics bowling. He was a member of St. Paul’s Fort Garry Anglican Church.

Family life included summers at the cottage on Rice Lake. He loved to help with chores, go swimming and fishing, lounge in the sun, and get together with friends. He was particularly close to friend and neighbour Bruce Turriff. In his adult life, Murray had the opportunity to move into a group home with some of his friends. He lived at a Norshel residence until the loss of mobility necessitated a move to Winnserv Belmont Ave.

Murray lived a full life with Down Syndrome. In his older years, he developed Dementia and his cognitive decline was steady. At the end of his life, he developed pneumonia and he succumbed to this on the morning of October 2, 2023, at the St Boniface Hospital with his Mom Kathy by his side. Bruce and Uncle Sandy Milne will have met Murray in heaven with a Safeway beer and a special handshake. They will take good care of him now.

The family would like to thank the people at Norshel Inc. for their care of Murray at work and home, especially Colin, Rob, and Lesley. We also feel blessed to have found Winnserv to care for Murray since March 2022. Thank you to Bev, Jonathan, and the caring staff of Belmont. Finally, we would like to thank the compassionate staff of St Boniface ER who kept Murray comfortable and helped us through a very difficult few hours.

A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023, at 12:30 p.m., at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 830 North Drive, Winnipeg.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Murray’s memory may be made to St. Paul’s Anglican Church (Fort Garry) Memorial Fund, 830 North Drive, Winnipeg R3T0A6.
