Linda Garn

September 13, 1948 – April 5, 2024

It is with heavy hearts the family of Linda Garn announce her passing on Friday, April 5, 2024 at Health Science Centre after suffering a stroke. She was welcomed home in Heaven by her parents Arthur and Lily, older sister Doreen and infant brother John, all of whom she missed so much.

Linda was born on September 13, 1948 to Lily and Arthur Garn, the middle of three daughters. Linda spent her childhood in the Lilyfield area near Stony Mountain where she loved playing on the farm with her sisters and many cousins. The family moved to Winnipeg in the early 60s where she completed her education and began her career at CIBC that lasted over 40 years. She began as a front desk clerk and was quickly promoted to teller and over the years received several more promotions and transfers, eventually ending her career in small business loan support. She was very creative and skilled in sewing and liquid embroidery in her younger years. She loved road trips to visit her best friend Maureen and her husband in Red Lake Ontario and enjoyed helping them at their fishing lodge. She also enjoyed outings for dinner, trips to the casino and she loved her red wine. Queen and The Beatles were her favourite bands to listen to. When the Beatles had a stop over in Winnipeg in 1964 Linda rushed to get to the airport as fast as she could but just missed them.

A famous writer once said, “We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give”. If that is true, then Linda made a great life. She was the most giving person we’ve ever known as she was always there for us to help in any way she could.

Linda leaves to mourn her niece Sheri (Tom, Kayla and Tyler), nephews Jeff (Blaine) and Devin (Nicole, Isabella and Jillian) and sister Elaine, as well as many cousins, friends and extended family, along with her feline fur babies Coco and Millie, who are missing her greatly.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024, at 11:00 am, Weston Memorial Community Club, 1625 Logan Avenue near Keewatin St.

We extend our heartfelt thank you to the WFPS first responders, paramedics, the emergency and neuro-surgery staff at Health Science Centre and Unit GB2 for making her as comfortable as possible in her final days. We would also like to thank the two patrons at Buffet Square for their assistance.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory would be greatly appreciated to Craig Street Cats at unit # 16-1421 St. James Street, Winnipeg, MB R3H 0Y9 or by etransfer to cats@craigstcats.ca. Linda was a former cat foster and proud supporter of Craig Street Cats.

The world is a sadder place without Linda in our lives. She touched each and every one of us and has left us with beautiful memories we will never forget. Rest in peace, Aunty Linda.
