It is with great sadness that we mourn the peaceful passing of Leonard (Joe) L. Zammit, aged 88, on October 16, 2018, in Winnipeg.
Joe was born in Winnipeg on December 3, 1929, to parents Joseph and Mary. He met his wife Lorraine through an introduction by mutual friends. They married on August 28, 1954, and called Transcona home, where they raised four children and Snoopy the Beagle. Here they lived a fun-filled, adventurous and sports-filled life. Dad discovered the family’s special home away from home at Gull Lake, where they bought a cottage in 1966. It was where the family played and made great life-long friends and memories. Joe was an avid golfer, sailor, curler, snowmobiler, skier and fisherman. His love for sports was surpassed only by his love for adventure and travel. Joe and Lorraine enjoyed many exotic travels but his favourite of all was sailing the Caribbean on a Windjammer. Joe enjoyed success as a sales representative in the printing sector mainly for Stovel Advocate which later became Lawson Graphics and LGM Graphics. After retirement, Joe and Lorraine wintered in Harlingen, Texas for many years. Joe was a great role model to his children and grandchildren.
He will be missed dearly by his wife of 64 years, Lorraine; his children Wade (Debbie), Jay (Deb), Dean (Wendy) and Jodi. as well as by his grandchildren David, Loren, Riley, Jessie, Zachary and Hayden.
The family is grateful for and would like to thank the staff at the Maples Personal Care Home for their compassionate care.
A celebration of life will be held at the Transcona Legion, 117 Regent Avenue East, on Friday, October 26, 2018, at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
