Lenard Earl Alvin Smith

April 27, 1930 – October 6, 2023

Lenard Earl Alvin Smith passed away peacefully at the age of 93, into God’s heavenly arms, on October 6, 2023.

He was married to Grace for almost 73 wonderful years. They were truly soulmates and were always seen together. They were blessed with two wonderful daughters, Heather (Kris) and Dawn (Al).

He was especially blessed to have his grandchildren, Michael (Nadine), Meaghan (John), Matt, and Devin (Darylann). He was fortunate to spend countless hours with many of his great-grandchildren, Jadon, Landon, Mason, Addyson, Caira, Cole, Marley, Matilynn, and Morgan. He leaves to mourn 6 brothers and 1 sister.

Earl was born on a farm in Langenburg, Sask. on April 27, 1930, to Adolf and Eva. He was the 2nd oldest of 15 kids. When he was 8 years old, the family moved to Lake Francis, MB to live on a family dairy farm. This is where he attended a small country school until he was 16, when he moved to live with his sister, Geraldine, to pursue his education at Sissler High.

After he graduated, he worked at Coca-Cola and then moved to McGavin’s Toastmaster where he became a head sales manager. He remained there for 34 years and retired to become a cattle/beef farmer in Woodlands, MB. Mom and dad had 200 head of cattle. They both worked hard together and were very successful. They decided to move closer to Kris, Heather, and the kids in Valhalla Beach. They made 2 more moves as they aged. Finally, Dad and Mom moved to Woodland Courts in Selkirk, MB in 2021.

He enjoyed camping, bowling, baseball, hunting, and playing sports. He also took a special interest in coaching his daughters. He loved singing and dancing. He also loved spending time with his family and took great pride in everything that they did.

He always had a story to share and was always up for a game of dominos or cards, Ticks, 2500, and of course Stay In, were always favorites, and a competitive nature he had. He didn’t care about your age, he was not going to let you win, so you can imagine the pride when we actually beat him!

We are all better people to have had him in our lives and will cherish his memory forever.

A special thank you to the staff in the Emergency Department at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre.

Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave, Winnipeg.

Interment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.

Until we meet again.

  1. He will be missed by everyone who ever knew him. I always loved it when our family went for a vacation to Manitoba, cause we always looked forward to seeing Uncle Earl and Aunty Grace on the farm. I loved talking about hunting with him and looked forward to playing cards. He was alot of fun and I wish we could have spent more time together. Love and miss you Uncle Earl ❤️ . Till we meet again.
