Lazaros (Laz) Nicholas Simeonidis

Lazaros Laz Nicholas Simeonidis
January 23, 1994 – August 14, 2021

Last week the world lost a gentle and caring soul. It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Laz Simeonidis, aged 27, our most beloved son, brother, nephew, grandson and friend.

Laz will be greatly missed by his mother Jodie Simeonidis; father Greg Simeonidis; sisters Kassandra and Stephanie Simeonidis; grandfather Lazaros Simeonidis Sr; grandmother Judith Bradley; loving aunt, Natasa Simeonidis (Alex Robinson); loving uncle, David Bradley (Debbie); loving aunt Rhea Topolniski; his nan Nesta Topolniski and many great friends. Sadly, Laz’s grandmother, Valentina Simeonidis and grandfather, Brian Bradley predeceased Laz. It gives us great comfort knowing Laz is now at peace with his grandparents and is loved here on earth and in heaven.

Laz grew up in Fort Garry and attended General Byng School and Vincent Massey Collegiate. He graduated in 2012.

He grew up in the family business and was employed at Santa Lucia Pizza. He worked as a cook and was a diligent and hard worker. Laz had many friends amongst his coworkers. He thought of them as family.

In addition to his family and friends, Laz loved to skateboard. He began skateboarding at a very young age and continued skateboarding into his adulthood. He had an inquisitive mind and enjoyed making puzzles, astronomy and had a love of math. He enjoyed eating a verity of foods from different countries. The spicier the better. He never met a hot sauce that he wouldn’t challenge!

Laz also loved going on vacations to theme parks in the U.S. and Canada. He never met a roller coaster that he was afraid of getting on and enjoying it for dear life!
Another of Laz’s passions was his music and being a DJ. He was known as “LazOff”.

He enjoyed producing and mixing his own electronic music, playing psytrance and dubstep. Watching the crowd dancing, enjoying his set and having fun with the other DJ’s brought him such joy! You can enjoy some of Laz’s music @www.soundcloud.com/Lazertheblazer

Laz was a quiet, sensitive and kind person who always thought of others before himself. He conducted his life with a reserved dignity that we could all learn from. Our hearts are broken but we hope that at some point the pain we now feel, will be overcome by the many wonderful memories we had with him. Though he was taken away from us too soon, we are very fortunate to have had him in our lives.

Funeral service will be held on August 26 at 11:00 a.m., at St. Demetrious Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Avenue and will be held in compliance with current Provincial COVID-19 restrictions.

Those who cannot join us, are welcome to watch the service online via live streaming at: https://youtu.be/0zDlTpW-Pu4
Following the service, interment will take place at Thomson In The Park, 1291 McGillivray Blvd.

If friends and family so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Laz’s memory to: The Bruce Oake Foundation @thebruceoakefoundation.com

  11. My deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences go out to you Greg ,Jodie, stephanie, and Kass. It has been a long time since I have spent time with all of you. My memories of Laz are more of a little boy under my feet in the original Santa Lucia booth at folk festival and fringe festival. He grew into a fine young man who was taken way to early. All my families thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Rest in peace Laz.
