Kenneth Allan Funk

August 7, 1981 – January 17, 2024

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our Son, Brother, Father, Nephew, Uncle, Cousin, and Friend, Kenneth Allan Funk.

Kenny was born on August 7,1981 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to parents Shirley Funk and Allan Erstelle.

Kenny will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Shirley, and Allan (Linda) his older sister Christine Funk, his younger brothers, Derek Funk (Melissa), Mikey Funk (Sam) and of course his beautiful children Drenal Thomas (Allysa) Dazmyne, Dayton, Damen, Kai and Raquel Funk.

Kenny also leaves to mourn numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nephews, Nieces, and Friends.

Kenny was predeceased by his grandfather’s John Funk, Frank Mushmanski, Leonard Erstelle. His grandmother’s Margorie Mushmanski and Theresa Desequin, as well as his son (Baby) Derek Funk.

Kenny was born and raised mainly in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Although he did live in B.C and Calgary for short periods of time here and there.

Besides his children, Elmwood was his heart. Kenny attended school in Elmwood and always ended up back in Elmwood after his many attempts to try something new, someplace else. Elmwood was home.

Kenny was a humble man; he enjoyed the simple things in life. A baloney sandwich and bag of chips, or a full course feast. Either way Kenny was known to be able to eat large portions of food and never gain any weight! We were all jealous of that for sure!

Kenny worked numerous labor jobs throughout his life. He was a hardworking man. He prided himself on his hard work and dedication to completing tasks, whether it’s working on cars with his dad, doing activities with his kids, fixing things around the house, or helping out a family member or friend in whatever capacity he could. He was a kind and generous person, who didn’t have a lot to say but was always welcoming and protective of those he loved. Kenny had a special relationship with everyone in his life. Each of his siblings will remember the humor and joy Kenny brought to our life’s, as well numerous other family members and friends. Especially his favorite Uncle, Ken Funk.

Above all else, Kenny enjoyed being a dad. He loved his kids more that anything else and he enjoyed spending time with them whenever he could. He was well known for pulling out mattresses into the living room and having movie marathons with munchies! His nieces and nephews also had opportunities to enjoy this time with him, as Kenny and Lacey’s were the fun spot for kids for many years. It was also the place we got together as a family for holidays, meals, and BBQ’s.

Even throughout his struggles in life, he always loved his family and children, and he will be greatly missed by all.

The family would like to send out thanks to all those that offered condolences, donated wood, medicines, food, drinks, snacks, supplies, as well as those that stopped by and paid their respects to the sacred fire, the singers that offered their beautiful songs and Cecil Prince and Charmaine for the opening and closing of the sacred fire. Special thanks to the fire keepers, that stayed outside in the long cold days and nights to ensure Kenny was guided in a safe way on his journey. His brothers and nephews and niece did an amazing job. The family sincerely thanks you.

A limb has fallen,

 from the family tree.

For Creator has laid out,

my plan for me.

Remember the good times,

the laughs and songs sung.

The good life I lived,

The love was so strong.

My mind is at ease,

my soul is at rest.

I hope you Remember,

how truly I was blessed.

Continue our traditions,

big or small

Continue to love each other,

even when we fall.

I miss you all dearly,

so raise up that chin

Until the day the sun shines

And we are together again.
