Kathleen Kay Pearl Follows Nee Dempster

Kathleen (Kay) Follows died Nov 28, 2023, at the age of 96. She was predeceased by her husband George in 1999. Kay will be deeply missed by her family Lori, Kathy and Pat (Michelle) as well as her grandchildren, Brennly (Tyler), Terry (Jess), Sammy (John-Marc), Cara and Kristen. Kay was also a proud great-grandmother to Callan, Charlotte and Natalya.

Mum lived and worked in Winnipeg for most of her life. Kay had a long career at the Bank of Montreal and then Wilson Auto. No matter how hard her workday was, she always had time to make sure her family had lots of baking. At this time of year her freezer would be full of mince tarts, Christmas cakes, shortbread and of course butter tarts.

Mum was incredibly proud of her family and delighted in spending time with her grandchildren. Her extended family was so important to her, especially her brothers and sisters, all who predeceased her, and all their families.

Family gatherings were always her favorite and Auntie Kay took great delight in buying gifts for all the young children. Mum loved to travel and was fortunate to have made two trips to England and Ireland, several trips to Victoria and for a number of years spent time in Iowa with family.

We will always remember Mum’s love for maple walnut fudge, great family/holiday dinners, amusement park rides, the lake, Saturday breakfasts at Seine River Café, and ice cream cones.

The past few years have been difficult for Kay as she dealt with dementia. However, she remained incredibly strong until the end. While she was in care, her smiles and giggles made those around her smile. The family would like to extend their gratitude to those workers who went out of their way to care for Kay and were rewarded with her precious kisses on their cheeks.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your favourite charity or one of Mum’s favourites: Winnipeg Humane Society, Manitoba Harvest or Make a Wish.

Mum, we are going to miss you so much. You were a loving, generous and caring soul and you were “our sunshine”.
