It is with heavy hearts and sadness we announce that on July 10, 2023, Joan passed due to complications from a stroke and received her angel wings to Heaven.
Joan leaves behind her dearly cherished husband of 65 years, Stan, and her adored daughter Kellie (Jack). She was predeceased by her special angel daughter Janet on July 10, 2020.
Mum was born on November 16, 1938, to Nick and Anna Sawchuk. She was an exceptional wife and mother who was always devoted to her husband and kids, full of love, hugs, kisses and had a generous heart, especially at Christmas time. Mum and dad held many Ukrainian Christmas’ at their home for many years entertaining 40 to 60 people for dinner and drinks.
Mum and dad were a very active couple, whether it be shopping, meeting friends for lunch or going to the casino. They especially enjoyed going to Kellie and Jacks home and seasonal trailer site for BBQ’s.
Mum also loved to help Kellie with her flowers. She was adored by many people. She was very fashionable and was complemented often. Mum also loved her fur babies Carmel and Smokey like they were her grandchildren and they loved her back.
The family would like to thank the paramedics and staff at the Health Sciences Center for their care and compassion towards Joan.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Joan’s Life will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., in the reception room of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave at Henderson Hwy.
A private family interment will be held at a later date at All Saints Cemetery.

Mum, dad and I miss your you so much, we love you mum and will never forgot the wonderful mother and wife you were, mum you always said you will never leave me and you did way to soon, i miss our every morning coffee chats, i know have nobody to check on me daily and complain to, you were always there to listen to me about whatever we talked about. Mum you were not supposed to leave me and dad. Pls don’t worry we are looking after dad very well but he is so lost without you after 65 years together. No words can express how much i miss you mum. Mum you left us the same July 10th the same as Janet so i know she was there to great you at the Gates in Heaven, i wish they had phones and visiting hours there mum because i miss you soooo much my heart is broken and im still in disbelief that you are gone. Mum may you rest in peace until we met again one day, look after our fur babies up there with you. Mum Carmel says woof woof grama she looks for you at the front gate when dad comes over then there is disappointment in her face when she does not see you. We love you sooo much and life now has changed and you know i dont like change. Sending hugs and big kisses to you mum. Miss you and love you💖 as you would never say good bye it was always see ya soon. You are my sunshine always mum. 💝😂💖
I have been Kellie ( Jack’s) neighbour and friends for over 18 years , I have known her parents since that time. Always so friendly and kind. We had a blast celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in Kellie’s backyard., me throwing baby quiches to you over the fence as they came out of the oven 🤗. Kellie you are and were a wonderful daughter, she loved you and will always love you…she will be watching you now from above, hanging out with Janet and all yiur fur babies . ❤️
