James Patrick Gibson
May 27, 1951 to January 17, 2022

“Jimmy” Gibson passed away peacefully on Monday, January 17, 2022 at Riverview Health Centre after a short, but courageous battle with cancer.

Jim will be greatly missed, and forever remembered by his wife of 49 years Reine Lise Gibson (nee Duguay); his sons Ryan, Stephen (Jillian) and Mark (Lauren); as well as his four cherished grandchildren, Ella Reine, Ernie, Jeannie and Ripley. Jim is also survived by his siblings, Christine (Ken), Jan (Neil), Patty (Chris), Tim (Jody) and John (Deanna); his in-laws Marlene (Don), Bernie, Michel (Erin), Pierre (Cynthia), Andre (Cathy) and Daniel (Heather). Jim will also be remembered by his numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his parents John and Germaine, his sister Muriel and sister in-law Louise.

Jim was born in Saskatoon, SK on May 27, 1951. Jim worked at Fisheries and Oceans, starting at a very young age, until his retirement in 2006. As a young father Jim enjoyed coaching his boys in hockey and he was a dedicated volunteer at Norberry Community Centre and The English Springer Spaniel Club. Jim was passionate about everything he loved in life such as: his family, his grandchildren, his golf buddies, his fishing and hunting friends, and his many dogs.

Jimmy was a true gentleman and a one of a kind man. Whether it was walking you to your car after a nice visit or enjoying a nice rummy on his deck, Jimmy was never short for words.

In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place and the family is planning a celebration of life in the summer.

In lieu of flower donations, instead enjoy a rum with your loved ones.

    1. I met Jimmy approx. 18 years ago in Rincon Guyabitos , Mx. once we met and got to know one another ;we’d share stories, laughs and the occasional rum, you could tell that here was a good and honourable man. Several months ago I called to see how he was doing, we talked for quite some time. You could tell that he was at peace for what lay ahead; it was during this talk that Jimmy began to console me as I’d just lost my wife to breast cancer. So here was a man dealing with all his issues to make sure that I was going to be okay- I’ll never forget that call. That was Jimmy, always thinking of the next guy and what words he could give to help them. So I’d like to raise my glass of rum.
To you Jimmy – God bless

I am so sorry to hear of Jim’s death.
He was a big part of the Aquaculture program at the Freshwater Institute for many years and an important cog in the water chemistry field work at Erickson with Jan Barica. I remember him spending so much of his spare time training his new puppy in pastures around the field station. it was on its way to be the best trained dog that any of us others had ever seen. Our ill trained mongrels were of little competition

  17. I always enjoyed being with Jim. One night we went to collect pigeons out of a loft in MacGregor, to train our Springers. Jim was indefatigable. Buster

  18. Deepest Condolences to Lisa and family. Jim will be greatly missed by everyone. I first met Jim at ELA and we worked together during the rainbow trout years at Erickson.. He always had a big smile and a kind word.

  19. Lise and family, I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve been thinking of Jimmy and remember how much fun I’ve had with him. I’ve had the pleasure of spending many a day upland bird hunting, trap & skeet shooting, dog training, curling and golfing with Jim. Some of my most favourite times with him have been having a beer or two in Onanole during the Erikson days and more recently sharing pictures of our kids and grandkids at the NOB. Jimmy, you’ve always been so generous with your time and I think that when people refer to a true sportsman and gentleman, they must be referring to someone like you.

You were a good neighbour Jim. Why do bad things happen to good people? I’ll miss you and your kind ways.

  21. I got my first Springer from Jim. He was such a nice guy and was always ready to help me learn and teach me about handling them. My condolences to his family.
