James (Jimmy) Paulos

James Jimmy Paulos

Born: November 26, 1936
Date of passing: June 6, 2021

It is with deep sadness the family announces the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother and husband James (Jimmy) Paulos on Sunday, June 6, at home and with family at his side. We take comfort knowing that he is reunited with his daughter Christine and siblings Dino and Lillian, now together for their eternal rest. Jimmy is survived by his beloved and caring wife of 57 years Maria, their son Sam (Gayle Kosokowsky), Dr. Bharat (Sheri) Dulat, grandson Arjan, and sister Tasia (Jack) Cretekos.

Jimmy was born on November 26, 1936 in Molai, Laconia, Greece, a beautiful hillside town overlooking fertile plains lush with olive and orange groves. In the summer months the family would leave town for the cooler plains of Boboklia, the agricultural land where many childhood adventures took place. Before long, his adventures grew to include travel to Fargo and Tucson, eventually leading to service in the US Army and a coveted US passport.

In January of 1964, Jimmy met the beautiful woman that would soon become his wife of 57 years and together they left their homeland sailing aboard the SS United States. Jimmy and Maria settled in Rochester NY, started a family, and then moved once again in 1971 to Winnipeg, Canada.

Jimmy was a long-standing member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, including serving as Board President. He will be remembered for the thousands he fed at Oliver’s Restaurant, as a volunteer at Folkrama, the Dairy Queen, and at his home table which was always open and frequently occupied with friends and family. Jimmy expressed himself through his table, his hospitality and his food, which was always made with love. A perfectly ripe tomato from the garden, olive oil from Sykea Greece, a jug of wine and friends/family to share these treasures with, brought him endless joy.

The family would like to express their appreciation for the care and compassion provided by Dr. Magnusson and PC Nurse Kandis, Erin and team at Palliative Care, Maggie and Nancy at Execucare and their wonderful caregivers Blesilda, Charmaine, Louie, Elizabeth, Menna, Gideon, Fe, Kalkidan and Slamawit.

Due to current COVID restrictions, a private funeral service with Reverend Father Nikolaos Tambakis presiding will be held on Thursday, June 10 at 1:00 PM central time zone. For those that wish to participate virtually a live stream and recording will be available at https://youtu.be/ZMWBlB4H42Q

Donations may be made to the St. Demetrios Church, 2255 Grant Ave., Winnipeg MB https://www.stdemetrioschurch.com or to Harvest Manitoba Food Bank https://www.harvestmanitoba.ca/

ADIO MIMI

FAREWELL my brother beloved and friend. You left us so suddenly, and our sorrow has no end. And if you want me to be sincere, your voice was always sparkling and clear. But sadly, on Sunday the 6th day in June, your voice silenced I declare, as the shroud of sorrow has fulfilled the air. You were unique indeed in all your deeds and your life was always a touch of spring. How can I deny, and how can I forget the days of our youth that had no end!

We lived together in Boboklia, on the field full of dreams! Lilika, Tasia, Kosta, you, and me, and my brother Nick, playing together on the rugged fields.

Now only three of us are left behind, my brother Niko, your sister Tasia and I.
Rest in peace my beloved brother Mimi, for we shall remember you as we are dreaming.

We will be fine, as we taste on your memory, the olive oil from Barba Dino from Sykea, and Giannis’ with his sweet wine. Please accept one of my teardrops, hopefully not to see you any time soon!!!

PS. Oh! Yes, and let us not forget, our life is grand, with Maria and Sam.
