Helen Ruth Keryluk nee Funk

Peacefully with her family at her side, Helen passed away on December 3 at the Grace Hospice Center.

Left to cherish her love and memory are her husband, Walter; daughters Jan (Dave), Tracey, and Joy (Jason); granddaughter Katie; sister Ella (Orville); and sister-in-law Stella, as well many nieces and nephews.

Helen was born in Morden and moved to Winnipeg at an early age following the death of her father. While working at Air Canada, she met Walter when the two of them took ballroom dancing lessons. Their 60th anniversary was this fall.

After their wedding, she and Walter moved to Portage la Prairie where they raised their family and Helen worked at the Portage Hospital and the Portage Medical Clinic. Helen supported Walter and the girls in all things. She kept close ties with her sisters, her in-laws, and their families, and she especially doted on her granddaughter.

Helen was friendly, compassionate, and had a witty sense of humor. Animals experienced only kindness from her and any houseplants under her care flourished. Her holiday cookies were Christmas perfection. Creativity and attention to detail went into every stitch of Halloween, skating, and dance costumes for the girls. There were always books in Helen’s home and there was never a cryptogram or puzzle she couldn’t solve.

Our family would like to thank the staff of the Grace Hospice Center for the exceptional care and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grace Hospital Foundation.

At the request of the family, a private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
