Picture of Gladys Caroline Malmas

Gladys passed away, peacefully with family and friends by her side at Concordia Hospital on November 29, 2018, at the age of 90, after a brief battle with cancer.

Gladys will be sadly missed by daughter Dawn (Stuart) Kletke and her four grandchildren; Ryan, Kyle, Aryn, and Samantha. Also, survived by her brother, Robert (Yvonne) Herlick and was blessed with numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Harvey and Minnie (nee Engel) Herlick, her brothers Ken and Ralph Herlick, her son Wayne Kosmick, and her husbands Gordon Kosmick, and Arthur Malmas.

Gladys was born in South Easthope, Ontario on November 9, 1928. She worked numerous jobs in the area, the one job she always talked about was the hosiery factory, which was converted into a grenade factory during WWII, where she continued to work. Gladys met Gordon Kosmick in London, Ontario and the two were married in 1950. In 1957, they moved to Winnipeg, where they raised their family. During her working career in Winnipeg, she worked at McDonald’s, Freshwater Fish, and the Golden Oak Inn. After Gordon passed away in 1981, Gladys’ love of dance would lead her to meet her second husband, Arthur Malmas. They were married in the spring of 1987 and she moved to Meadows, MB. When Art passed in 2001, Gladys moved back to Winnipeg to be closer to her grandchildren. Gladys’ happiest times were spent at the cottage with her family and travelling with Art.

Gladys moved into Park City Meadows Condo’s in 2008, where she met many new friends. She loved all the social activities, she especially looked forward to Wednesday night bingo.

On November 10, 2018, she was able to attend her surprise 90th birthday party, where her brother Bob, wife Yvonne, and cousin Shirley flew in from Ontario as part of the surprise. She was so happy to see family and friends.

Special thanks to the staff and Chaplin Lori at Concordia Hospital, your special care was very much appreciated. Also, a special thanks to Dr. Mohammed for your amazing care.

According to Gladys’ wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date.
