In Loving Memory of Garry Ronald Rentz

July 15, 1940 – January 1, 2024

After a short but courageous battle with Cancer, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Garry Ronald Rentz. He is survived by his devoted partner, Audrey Nemis, and her children Melissa Francis (Tim), Marla Nemis (Chris), and his grandchildren, Brooke, Lyla, TJ, Maalik, Zaria and Charlee. Garry also leaves behind his siblings, Brian (Nora), Carrol (Ron), Lynne (Dave) and his nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his parents Harold and Betty Rentz.

Garry was a man of many passions, finding solace and joy in the great outdoors. His love for gardening, fishing, and mushroom picking reflected his deep connection with nature. Garry enjoyed cooking and preparing meals for his family and guests. They particularly enjoyed getting an invite to enjoy a delicious fish fry. Garry liked to make food from scratch and would often smoke his own meat and he took pride in making his own sauerkraut, relish, salsa, headcheese, and horseradish. Though some culinary adventures may have come close to burning down the fence, Garry’s creations were always enjoyed by those fortunate enough to savour them.

Throughout his life, Garry shared captivating stories of his adventures growing up, whether at the family cottage, in school, or on hunting expeditions. His career in sales for various trucking companies provided him with countless tales of his professional life. Garry had a sharp memory and his storytelling was always engaging.

In his role as a loving partner to Audrey, Garry exhibited unwavering loyalty, kindness, and generosity. Garry also held a special place in his heart for his canine companions that predeceased him, Brandy and Idaho. He treated them like part of the family, (which included giving them their own plate of food from the dinner table) and he enjoyed taking them on long walks or letting them run in open fields.

Garry also had a fondness for his grandchildren and his face always lit up in their presence. His kindness and warmth will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the homecare workers and staff of Riverview Palliative Care for ensuring Garry’s last days were as comfortable as possible.

A small, private celebration of life will be held in Garry’s honour.

May his soul rest in peace, and may fond memories bring comfort to those who mourn his passing.
