It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our dad, opa, brother and uncle, Friedrich, with his daughter and granddaughter by his side holding his hand.

Dad took his last breath on Saturday evening, January 18, 2020.

Fred is survived by his daughter Gaby (Richard), granddaughter Katrina (Benny) great grandchildren Adaline and Nicholas. Also left to mourn are his sisters Helene in Frankfurt, sister Christina in Toronto and younger brother Hubert (Trudy) in Toronto as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Dad emigrated to Canada in 1959 from Germany. He was a custom tailor in Germany, and worked in furniture manufacturing business for over 37 years in Canada. Dad could sew everything from dresses to car seats, to anything that needed upholstering. He was such a talented and smart man.

Dad was a kind man with a gentle soul. He had a hard life, and worked very hard to make sure his family was taken care of. Growing up I spent Saturdays with my dad going to the pet shop followed by going to the stamp store and then lunch at the Salisbury House on Henderson Hwy. He always had the Salisbury Steak.

He also loved to go fishing in Lac du Bonnet even though he didn’t eat fish. We had many fish tanks at home, where he would watch his fish and just relax. Dad loved his animals and there were a few occasions where he came home with bunnies. He loved his little doggies too. Another love of his was watching wrestling. Richard and dad would spend Sunday evenings watching wrestling and eating pizza together. They were true buddies just talking, joking around and enjoying each other. He had many great stories of his life to tell.

His only granddaughter Katrina was the apple of his eye. He loved her so much and was so proud of her. We were so fortunate to have this great man in our lives for so long. He was able to be part of Katrina and Benny’s wedding and be able to spend time with his great grandchildren which always made him laugh.

For the last two years he had been living at Amber Meadow Retirement Home, where he made some new friends with whom he could sit and chat and tell jokes. Thank you Jeff, Vino, Oscar and Debbie the best bus driver, for watching out for my dad and caring, it is very much appreciated. Also to the home care attendants and wait staff for making sure he got his three meals a day, he was very grateful.

After a massive stroke in October 2018 we all got to see how strong and determined this man was to get better. He not only tried to get better himself but encouraged other patients to try harder.

Dad has touched many hearts and will truly be missed by so many. To the first man who ever loved me right to the end and treated me like a princess, Dad my heart is broken, I will love you and miss you forever, you were a good man.

May you Rest in Peace
