Ernest John Alexander Hamilton

Ernest John Alexander Hamilton
November 24, 1938 – July 21, 2023

Ernie (Papa) passed peacefully at his home in his 84th year.

He is survived by his sister Jean; son Douglas; grandchildren Fiona, Morag, and Iaian; great-grandson Archie; stepdaughter Marni (John); and grandsons Wesley and Graham (Raylene), as well as many nephews and nieces. Ernie was predeceased by his son Alexander, daughter Paula, brothers Bob and Ted, and sister Margaret.

He was born and remained his entire life in Winnipeg. He enjoyed telling stories about his visits as a boy on his grandparent’s farm in Stoney Mountain. He also liked to share “stories” of things he learned on TV, but you were never quite sure if he was pulling your leg.

Ernie drove a bus for many years, first with Winnipeg Transit and then with the Military. He also worked at Home Depot and as a doorman in his later years. His first job was delivering telegrams.

In his younger days, Ernie enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing. As an adult, he enjoyed woodworking projects, casino visits, road trips to the US, crossword puzzles, classic TV shows, and naps in his chair.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Fort Garry Rotary Villa for caring and enriching Ernie’s last seven years. He also had wonderful homecare support that was greatly appreciated.

Cremation has taken place with a private family gathering at a later date.

He was Great Uncle Ernie to me. I have many memories of spending time with Uncle Ernie and photos that I will continue to cherish. Uncle Ernie visited his Uncle’s farm in Balmoral, Manitoba quite often, bringing his three children, my cousins, along to play. Rest peacefully.
