Elaine Paluk Twanow

Elaine Paluk Twanow passed away on Saturday, June 24th, 2023, a few months shy of her 85th birthday.

Elaine was born in Winnipeg to John and Eudoxie Paluk and lived here until she met and married the love of her life, Bob Twanow.

After they were married in 1963, Elaine and Bob made their home in London, Ont. In the mid ‘70’s they purchased the Skyline Motel in Waskesiu, Sask. which they operated for about 10 years.

After Waskesiu, they moved to Melfort where they ran a travel agency and became involved with the Melfort Chamber of Commerce.
Bob passed away in 1991 and after his passing Elaine moved herself to Mission, BC where she lived for several years. Gradually she migrated back to Manitoba to be closer to family and lifelong friends, first buying a cottage in Winnipeg Beach and spending the summers here and winters in Mission. Then, in 2003, Elaine purchased a condo in Winnipeg and moved back to Manitoba full time.

Wherever she lived Elaine was well known for her quilts and quilting classes, and for her love of animals, especially dogs and White German Shepherds.

Travel was also another passion of Elaine’s as she loved to experience new things and places, first with Bob and then on her own. She also had a knack for making good friends wherever she travelled and made her home.

To all of you who were a part of her life and support network over the years – thank you. She loved and appreciated you.

Elaine was predeceased by Bob in 1991, her father John in 1980 and her mother Eudoxie in 1991. She was also predeceased by Bob’s parents Harry and Eileen, her sister-in-law Laura and her nephews Barry and Bill.

She is survived by her brother Jack Paluk; her Twanow in-laws and dear friends, Rick and Shirley and Ray; and her nieces and nephews and their families – Joyce, Sharon, John, Jamie, Casey, Laine and Graeme. There are also many cousins, extended family and friends all over Canada and in the US that mourn her passing.

At Elaine’s request there will be no formal service and a family only interment will be held at a later date.

If you so wish, donations in her memory can be made to an animal shelter/cause or to a quilting group who make quilts for those in need. Elaine would like that.

Elaine and Bob – together forever.

  1. Laney was a very special and influential person in my life. We shared so much in common, mostly our love for the four legged critters, as she so fondly referred to them. She and Bob were a very unique couple…. I envied them in so many ways. Loved them both so so much! Will miss her terribly. She once told me, “If you are going to be a b____h, be a classy b___h”! Funny what sticks with you?? May she RIP!
