Doris Cress

December 31, 1947 – January 3, 2024

Doris Cress passed peacefully with her husband David by her side holding her hand on January 3, 2024. Doris was born at the St. Boniface Hospital on December 31, 1947.

She leaves behind her loving husband David whom she married on May 19, 1978, and her cousin Lori Last. She was predeceased by her parents Nick and Mabel Baranesky.

Doris lived in Transcona in her early life. She worked for The Hudson Bay and retired after 35 years. Doris and Dave enjoyed many summers at their trailer at the Autumnwood Motel and RV Resort in Gimli, MB. There she enjoyed her gardening, working at a greenhouse, and walking the beaches looking for beach glass. Winters were spent in Portugal where we got to meet many new friends especially our “Portuguese family” Luis, Celia, and Isabel Lourenco. She enjoyed traveling around Portugal, especially Porto. She and Dave also got to travel to other countries in Europe and to Morrocco.

Doris thoroughly enjoyed tending her summer gardens, doing watercolor painting, and knitting, and was always available to her friends with a big smile and great stories about the adventures Dave and her had. She will be greatly missed by her Condo family and her many friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Siloam Mission, Cancer Care MB, Salvation Army, or the Winnipeg Humane Society.

  1. Our hearts are heavy. We had many a good outing with David and Doris while in Portugal. She had such a lovely laughter that was infectious. Not to mention her artistic heart – not to mention her knitted monkeys!! She made us discover a beautiful art gallery in a very small village in Portugal where she would guide us to the proper purchase. We have had a photo of this gallery put on canvas and every time we look at it we will be reminded of Doris. We will miss you Doris!

  2. Beautiful afternoon sight seeing in Portugal and lunch
( Peri Peri Chicken ) with Dave and Doris. Fond memories.

  5. Dave,
Our condolences to you on the passing of your dear Doris. We feel blessed to have had a chance to get to know Doris this past year at Autumnwood and had the opportunity to see her beautiful water colour art work at the Gimli Art Show. Wishing you strength and peace now and all the days ahead,

  6. Our Sincerest Condolences Dave. Doris was a beautiful friend and a joy to spend time with. We have very fond memories of touring many places in Portugal with you both. She shared so many wonderful stories of her younger years. You two were a fun loving couple to spend time with in Portugal and with the Condo Family. Dave, you are in our thoughts and prayers every day to support you during this difficult time.
    Sincerely, Judi and Ken Jansen
