Peacefully in her sleep, Catherine passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Rest Haven Care Home in Steinbach, Manitoba.
Catherine leaves behind her husband Bill; daughter Sandra Futros (Dave); grandchildren Aaron Berg (Danielle), Carleigh Balciunas (Evan), Brendan Balciunas, Bonnie Futros (Jason), David Futros (Rachael) and Lynnette Futros; bonus daughter-in-law Savitrah Balciunas; siblings Mary Anderson, Bill Myskiw (Bernice), Mike Myskiw (Adele), Rod Myskiw (Lori), Ed Myskiw (Lise) and Gord Myskiw (Lise); numerous nieces and nephews, as well as her dear friend Betty Anne Funk.
She was predeceased by her daughter Cindy Balciunas; son-in-law Danny Balciunas; parents Nicholas and Polly Myskiw; brothers Peter Myskiw, Tony Myskew, John Myskiw; sisters Anne Laramee and Helen Sherbuck.
Catherine grew up in Prairie Grove, Manitoba, where her parents farmed. She later moved to Winnipeg to further her education, married her husband Bill and had daughters Cindy and Sandra. Besides having a 22 year career as an accountant, she was an avid gardener, cook and fisherwoman.
In 1999, Catherine lost her eldest daughter Cindy to breast cancer; her world changed and she never fully recovered. Through the years we thought it was the heartbreak of losing Cindy that caused the changes in her, but in hindsight we now know it was likely undiagnosed dementia. It’s a cruel disease that robbed us of the smart, fun and witty woman we once knew, and take comfort knowing she is now at peace.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Rest Haven Care Home who provided a caring and supportive environment for Catherine.
In keeping with Catherine’s wishes, no service will be held and cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G
