Blanche Irene (Paris) Walker

Blanche Irene Paris Walker
May 20, 1929 – January 15, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of Blanche Walker announces her passing on January 15, 2024, at Concordia Place Nursing Home at the age of 94.

Blanche passed away peacefully with family by her side and her stuffed toy kitten in her arms.

Blanche is survived by her children Gordon, Deborah (Lionel), Roy (Shari), and Rae-Lynn (Mike); grandchildren Kristie, Sherry, Wesley, Michael, Jennifer, Gregory, Brian, Ashtyn, Meghan, and Brendyn; and great-grandchildren Robert, Amy, Zachary, Cayden, Mila, and Paige. Blanche was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, James who passed away in 2000, daughter-in-law Audrey, siblings Robert, Angelene, Margaret, John, Mary, Ronald, Walter, and Gordon and parents Blanche and Colin Paris.

Blanche was born in Cheadle, Alberta on May 20, 1929, moving to Winnipeg in her late teens. She met James, a young soldier, in Winnipeg and they were married on December 27, 1948.

Blanche loved all animals from her horse on the farm in Alberta to the many cats and dogs she had over the years. Most notably her loyal chihuahua and fierce protector Peppi and most recently her cherished cat Pickles.

Blanche could usually be heard throughout the house clicking cards over on the kitchen table as she played solitaire. She also loved to challenge anyone to a good game of Scrabble and recently figuring out the daily Wordle puzzle with Gordon.

Blanche loved her flowers and plants and working in her garden. She loved country music. She was fortunate to play guitar and sing backup on one of Wilf Carter’s songs when she was a teen.

Per mom’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. There will be a private family Celebration of Life at a later date.

The family would like to thank the staff on C4 at Concordia Place Nursing Home for their care and compassion of our mother.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to D’Arcy’s Animal Rescue Centre, a charity dear to Blanche’s heart.

  1. When I was a young kid Mrs . Walker’s son Roy was just my best friends mom.
One thing that I remember the most was that I would casually run into her in the neighborhood during walks. She always remembered me and would stop to chat. Even into the latter years . Blanche would even come to say hi while the BOYS were noisy in the back yard or letting us hit golf shots in the wee hours of the morning…and I’ll never forget that big hug when her husband passed…
As it turned out, she was also my friend… she will always be missed 😢

  2. Sending deepest condolences and prayers. May all the special memories of your loved one warm your hearts during this difficult time. Beautiful photos. David and Renata.
