December 23, 1942 to March 25, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, nonno, brother, uncle, and friend to many. Antonio passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 82, surrounded by his family, who will continue to honour Antonio’s legacy by living their lives to the fullest and always prioritizing family.
Antonio was born in Triggiano (Bari) Italy and was the oldest of 6 children.
At the age of 12, his father unexpectedly died in a train accident, and Antonio left school and his dreams of becoming a professional soccer player to help his mother operate the family business and raise his younger siblings.
In 1968, Antonio came to Winnipeg with his sister Maria, in hopes of finding a brighter future. Shortly thereafter, he met the love of his life, Anna, and for both, it was ‘love at first sight’. They married in January 1969 and have been happily married for 55 years.
Antonio worked hard to reunite his family and helped bring his other siblings to Winnipeg to establish their lives and families. He had two children of his own, and worked at CP Railway for almost 30 years, where he was respected and well liked by everyone.
In 2002, Antonio began his well-deserved retirement, and has since enjoyed considerable quality time with family and friends, including for many years, being a snowbird in Florida where he and Anna made many new friends.
Throughout his entire life, Antonio dedicated himself to helping and caring for others. As one of the most giving people – always concerned about whether others were thriving – Antonio found deep meaning in human connection, making friends and earning dedicated followers wherever he went. He was a true lover of life and had a special way of being able to rise above stress and challenges, and could inspire others to do the same, with his smile, humor, his spark for life.
Antonio is survived by his wife Anna, his son Gaetano (Maria) and daughter Gianna (Brian), and grandchildren Anthony, Alexander, Adrianna, and Kerra. Also mourning him will be his brothers, sister, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
We would like to sincerely thank his friends and family for their unconditional support during his illness, as well as the doctors, nurses, and health care aids for all their compassion and help.
Additionally, a special thank you to Father Sam Argenziano for visiting and comforting Antonio at home in his final days.
If you wish to make a donation in memory of Antonio, please make donations to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.
A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 3rd, at 10:00 a.m., at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
The Pallbearers are as follows:
