Anita Peters

Anita Peters
1941 – 2021

On Thursday, December 30th, Anita passed away peacefully at the age of 80 years. She will be remembered and missed by daughter Lisa; granddaughters Kayla (Julia) and Alexa; son Michael, grandchildren Macy and Matthew, brothers Luc and Alfred Legault and sister Elva Martel, brother-in-law Ed Peters (Brenda), her godsons Joshua Marchand and Ron Martel, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and so very many friends. A special mention of her two very dear friends, Juliette Smith and Monique Demarais and close cousin Claire Bernardin. Anita is predeceased by her parents Albe and Yvonne Legault, the father of her children and good friend Neil Peters and her sister Laurette Brooker.

Anita was known as ‘Mom’, grand-maman, matante, Nittsy and Mme Peters to many. She will be remembered for her positive, genuine, loving and compassionate nature, love of family and friends and her warm and welcoming smile and laugh. Anita loved to hug and she gave the very best and biggest! She could always be counted on to greet her loved ones with a warm hug, followed by double cheek kisses. Anita was the life of every party and was often the last to leave any fun event. She had an amazing ability to light up any room with just her presence. Anyone who had the chance to meet Anita could not help but feel her love and immediately love her right back. She absolutely loved fashion and always looked perfectly put together for any occasion. To put it simply, she was just as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. She has touched and blessed the lives of so many during her 80 years on this earth.

Anita began her teaching career in her hometown of Elie, MB. She joined the St. Vital School Division in 1976. She taught at Dr. D. W. Penner then joined the French Immersion program at École Varennes and then taught at École St. Germain until her retirement. Anita also taught in Africa for a year after retiring and continued tutoring until this past year. Her “joie de vivre” was embedded in her teaching career as she was always excited for new teaching experiences. Wherever she was in the world she had a deep love for those who she worked with and those who she taught. Her passions for teaching and people were entwined to create a perfect life and work combination.

She loved traveling, going to the beach and spending time with the many people she cared about. She believed there was good in everyone, she had a very strong faith and was involved in Al-Anon for many years.

All are encouraged to share in stories and condolences for the family by visiting Anita’s memorial page at the Voyage Funeral Home website. A private celebration of Anita’s extraordinary life will be held at a later date.

  4. I was lucky enough to teach with Anita in the early 70’s at Nordale School. We had so much fun teaching next door to each other in our open area classrooms. We also spent time with your parents on weekends when Lisa and Michael were little. Our paths crossed many many times over the years and then we became 3rd neighbours at the Enckave. I will miss Anita so much. You summed up her personality and zest for life perfectly. Rest easy my friend. I’ll really miss you.

  5. A beautiful and amazing teacher and mentor. Anita was someone I considered a friend, who took me under her wing and always showed me love. You will be missed. Condolences to her family, whom she loved so much and spoke of so highly. ❤️

  9. There aren’t enough adjectives in the English language to properly describe Anita. She was a beautiful soul and we all loved her. So many memories of the fun times, countless talks and years of laughs on Cummings and at Gull Lake. No one could iron a dress shirt better than Anita, no one epitomized and shared happiness more than she and no one could make you feel more welcome. Sleep well beautiful Sunday Chick, until we meet again. ❤️
