Andrzej Maciuszonek

Andrzej Maciuszonek
November 8, 1950 – April 24, 2024

It is with the deepest of sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many, Andrzej Maciuszonek on April 24, 2024, surrounded by his family, after a battle with cancer.

He leaves to mourn his wife Malgorzata of 49 years; their children Monika (George) and Artur (Tara-Lee); grandchildren Athanasia, Malia, Alexandra, and Mateusz; along with his three sisters, brother-in-law, many nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Andrzej was born on November 8, 1950, in Zabrze, Poland. He was the 7th child of 8 children to Jozef and Helena Maciuszonek.

Andrzej grew up in Krakow, Poland. He graduated from a trade school with a specialization in hydraulics. For many years he worked at a steel manufacturing company.

In 1973 he met the love of his life and best friend Malgorzata. The two were married shortly after.

He eventually gave up the steel industry for entrepreneurship. Starting with his brother-in-law Stefan and sister Teresa, with whom he built greenhouses, cultivated flowers, bred insects, and repaired cars. In 1978 he became the owner of a cosmetics store, which he operated for 9 years.

In 1987 Andrzej and his wife decided to flee Poland for a better life and bigger opportunities for their family.

In August 1990 they arrived in Winnipeg, Manitoba to start their new life.

He started working at Palliser Furniture, then continued working as a finishing carpenter at different companies. Finally retiring at the age of 66. Throughout his life, he acquired many handyman skills which gave him the ability to renovate his home, build decks, gazebos, etc. He had “golden hands”.

Andrzej loved his garden, fishing, mushroom picking, and watching sports. He was very proud of his children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments. He was a very good man, with a good heart and a tireless work ethic. He was always very proud of any of his handy work, especially his and his wife’s home. Everyone could always count on his helping hand and advice. His smile and humor, his stories and legacy will live on forever in our hearts and minds.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at the St. Boniface Hospital E5 Unit for the exceptional care he received in the last few weeks of his life. Their kindness, extraordinary compassion, and attentiveness will never be forgotten.

Funeral Liturgy will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at Holy Ghost Church, 341 Selkirk Ave., in Winnipeg, followed by a lunch at the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or any charity of your choice.
