July 24, 1962 – April 12, 2022
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Wesley Ivan Martens on April 12, 2022. Wes was born in Winnipeg to John and Jessie Martens on July 24, 1962.
Growing up, he loved many sports including baseball, swimming, water polo, boating, water skiing, dirt biking, pool, and golfing. A proud achievement was when he hit a Hole-in-One at Detroit Lakes in 1978.
Wes was a big Winnipeg Jets, Blue Bombers, Blue Jays and Minnesota Vikings fan.
He worked for M. & M. Foundation Drilling and Metro Piling for over 35 years as a Drill Rig Operator and was skilled at math and reading blueprints.
He recently worked hard to get his Class 1 Driver’s License, and drove highway for over six months. He had plans to become a Long Haul Truck Driver before becoming ill.
Wes was a caring individual who was always willing to lend a hand to his father and others, and we are extremely grateful for the time he spent looking after his mother. We will, also, miss his sense of humour and friendship.
Wes is survived by his mother, father, stepmother, brother, two sisters, a stepsister and their families.
He is, also, survived by three daughters and a granddaughter who, although they were not his by birth, he loved very much and very truly thought of as his own.
Wes leaves behind numerous relatives and friends who loved him and he will be sadly missed by those whose lives he touched.
Cremation has taken place and a private Family Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, friends so desiring can make donations to Cancer Care Manitoba.

Very saddened to hear this news. Condolences to the Martens family and to Wes’s family. I have known Wes for many many years and he was always gentle, humble and kind. The world has lost a fine man. May he forever rest in peace.
My deepest condolences to the family. I have wonderful memories spending time at Detroit Lakes water skiing and endless hours on the beach with Wes, and the Kasdorf cousins.
Our deepest condolences to Wes’s family.

So sad to hear the news, i first met Wes at Westdale Junior High and became friends immediately always made me laugh and was just a all around good hearted guy. Spent the next 10 years going to Bomber and Jet games hanging out at the Dirty Dale playing pool and bubble hockey. Some of our best times was out at Lee River and spending the day at the Dam going down the rapids and under the falls. Wes was one of the best swimmers i have ever met playing water polo sure helped. Sorry to hear your gone at such a young age buddy we had some good times and awesome memories rest in peace my old friend and my condolences to the Martens family take care.
