APRIL 28, 1931 – JANUARY 27, 2022
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the sudden passing of our dearest husband, father and Gigi with family by his side on January 27, 2022 at St. Boniface Hospital.
He will be deeply missed by his wife Pauline of 65 years, his daughters Debbie (Roger), Susan (Denis) and special grandchildren Brenden and Chelsea. Walter also leaves behind his brother Mike (Elsie) along with numerous nieces and nephews. Walter was predeceased by his parents Michael and Apolonia, brothers Sylvester, Anthony and sister Mary.
Walter immigrated from Czechoslovakia with his family. The family settled in Fraserwood, MB then moved to the Dufresne, MB then on to a house in the North End. Walter’s first job was with Inman Motors on Main St., from there he moved on to a job at Burns Meats and had a career that spanned to most of his lifetime (45 years).
Walter enjoyed going out with his friends to dances and this is where he met his wife Pauline. After a couple of years of dating they decided to get married. Shortly afterwards they were blessed with their first daughter Debbie and 8 years later their daughter Susan was born. Mom and dad initially lived in West Kildonan but soon after marring, moved to Transcona. While living there mom and dad enjoyed doing things in the community such as curling, baseball and 10 pin bowling.
After retirement, Walter enjoyed going to Kildonan Place to visit with the Burns gang, and shopping trips to Giant Tiger were just a few of dad’s interests. Mom and dad would still go visit family at the farm in Meleb, MB and Winnipeg Beach.
In 1977 mom and dad decided to purchase a cottage at Hillside Beach. After retirement they made Hillside Beach their permanent residence. Many stories can be told of the hard work and good times had out at the cottage. As mom and dad entered the later years of retirement, they knew that living at the lake was getting harder for them. It was at this point that they decided to move back to Winnipeg into an apartment.
Dad can be proud to say that he was driving up to 2 years ago and was able to live independently helping to cook meals, cleaning, doing laundry and enjoying watching the Jets and Bombers games. He was definitely a Saturday Hockey Night guy. He enjoyed going to Clear Lake with his family for a yearly vacation.
Thank you to the staff at the St. Boniface ER and night staff of 5E. Cremation has taken place, a private family service will be held at a later date. Voyage Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Walter was a wonderful man. We remember times such as Walter always giving out candy at Burns and his chats while on his way to coffee breaks. We enjoyed the times we were fortunate to see Walter at Lilac or at the mall with his retired buddies. A very gentle, genuine man! Our deepest sympathies to the family.
