It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our loving father Vernon Albert Gibson on July 16, 2021 at the age of 89. He was predeceased by Mary his wife of 50 years.
He was the wonderful and loving dad of daughters Verna, Judy (Steve), Val (John), Linda (Cam), Kim (John) and Tammy (Dave) and granddad of Kristie, Scott, Karyn, Jessie, Melissa and Luke as well as great-grandad to Ian, Tyler, Cameron, Sophia, and Emilie. He is also survived by his sister Pat (Ray) and brother Roy. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Lisa, his sister Norma (Alf), and parents Albert and Jessie. Dad had many special friends including Marvin who often visited Dad in his home. During the past many years, Tammy along with her husband Dave took awesome care of Dad, attending to his many needs. Tammy is our angel for all she has and had done for our Dad and we can’t thank her enough.
One of the many joys in his life was model railroading. He sacrificed a corner in his basement for his own layout, taking a lot of time and effort with details to make it fabulous. He was very proud of his layout and showed it off to his family and friends whenever possible. When he couldn’t manage his own, he loved to help his friends with their railroad layouts. It gave him so much joy. Dad also co-owned a model railroad hobby shop in Elmwood and had the opportunity to meet many other friends and talk “trains”.
Most of all Dad loved his family and friends. He had a good and fulfilling life with lots of love and laughs.
A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held at the Church at 127 Cobourg Avenue in Elmwood, on September 4th at 2:00 PM.

Vern was a close and true friend of mine. I learned a lot of my model skills from him over the years. We spent a lot of time on our layout as well as with others, either repairing or tearing down. The lunch meetings at the Curtis every Thursday and the MISLA meetings were very special to us. My visits to see Vern at Beacon Hill were bittersweet. I miss him already.
Vern was a very special friend to me. Over the years, I learned many of my modelling ideas from him. We spent a lot of time working on our layout or, helping others with theirs. The Thursday lunch meetings at the Curtis and MISLA running operation evenings were special to both of us. My visits with Vern at Beacon Hill were bittersweet. I miss him already.
Thanks Marvin for the lovely words about Dad. You were a very special friend to him and I know he really appreciated that friendship.
