Ulan Phyllis Ahow

December 2, 1924 – November 17, 2024

On November 17, 2024 at Donwood Manor Personal Care Home, Ulan passed away peacefully with family by her side.

Ulan was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad on December 2, 1924, where she lived most of her life. She was predeceased by her husband Charles in 1985 and her infant granddaughter Stephanie in 1994. Ulan was predeceased by her siblings, Michael(Eileen), Marie(Louis), Stephen and Sylvia(Cecil).

She will be greatly missed by her son Charles (Vicky), daughter Mary(John), grandsons, Jonathan, Alan (Nicolette), Christopher (Jessica), David, and Edward. Mom was blessed with 3 great grandsons, Ezra, Kai and Koa. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews in Canada, USA, England and Trinidad.

Mom always welcomed and entertained her family, friends and neighbors in her home. She was a kind and generous person and was always thoughtful of others. Her faith and church were an integral part of her life.

Mom enjoyed caring for her yard and tending to her beautiful orchids and tropical plants. She especially enjoyed sharing fruits from the many trees in the yard.

Mom worked as a Senior Clerical Officer at Huggins Shipping Department and also at the Port Authority. A highlight of her career was her promotion as an assistant manager of the Tobago division, making her a pioneer for women holding such positions in a workplace which at that time was dominated by men.

Special thanks to the staff at Donwood for caring for Mom with love and compassion. As a family, we are truly grateful for each one of you that were involved in her daily care.

At her request, a Catholic Service will be held in Port of Spain, Trinidad with Father Hugh Ahye (nephew) officiating.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

  2. My condolences to you all! Ulan was a most lovely person and someone I am privileged to have known in the short time she resided at Donwood Manor. I will miss her smile, her hearty singing in chapel service and her care and concern for her family as she asked that our prayers include them each week. She was a part of our community here at Donwood and will be missed.
Take care, Sherryl Koop – Chaplain at Donwood Manor
