The family is heartbroken to announce the passing of Tom on February 9, 2019, from pancreatic cancer at the St. Boniface hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
He was predeceased by his parents Wilfred and Irene.
Tom was the second child of a family of ten; David (deceased), Pauline, Lawrence, Alfred (deceased), Philip, Catherine, Mary, Eileen and Jane. Tom will forever be remembered by his wife Nancy; sons David and Mark (Nathalie); daughter Sarah (Dan); and three precious granddaughters Chloé, Léa and Abigail.
Tom was born May 10, 1945, in Leeds, England. He graduated from Manchester University in 1968 and subsequently ventured to Canada as a teacher in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. The following year he began his career as a social worker in Swift Current where he met and married Nancy. Together they moved to Chicago where he gained a Master’s degree in social work; graduating in 1973. He then accepted a position in Winnipeg on 3-West in child and adolescent crisis intervention. For the last 18 years, Tom worked in CancerCare where he was well respected by all disciplines. Not only a remarkable counsellor, mentor and leader in psychosocial oncology; Tom brought his gift of storytelling to clients, mindfulness groups and colleagues. His enchanting stories entertained generations within his family.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2019, at 10:00 a.m., at the Niakwa Country Club, 620 Niakwa Road (off Fermor and Archibald).
