Raymond J. Wiebe

Raymond J. Wiebe

March 9th, 1958 – February 18th, 2024

On February 18th, 2024, at age 65 and in the comfort of his home, Raymond J. Wiebe peacefully left this world after spending the day surrounded by his greatest loves – Donna, Eric and Alana.

Ray is survived by his wife of 40 years, Donna; son Eric (Natalie); grandchildren Joëlle and Penelope; daughter Alana (Anthony); mother Betty; brothers Alvin (Audrey) and Stanley (Sally); and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Ray was predeceased by his father, Ernest Wiebe.

Ray was a charismatic and caring husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend.

The second of three boys, Ray was born on Sunday March 9th, 1958 to parents Ernest Wiebe and Elizabeth “Betty” Wiebe (nee Klassen) in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Ray was energetic and a true ‘people person’, a natural fit for his career as a real estate agent.

In 1977 Ray met Donna (nee Lippiatt). They married in 1983, bought a house in River Heights, and created a loving home where they raised their two beautiful children, Eric, and Alana.

Ray enjoyed the simple things in life – going fishing, riding his bike, spending time relaxing with family and friends, and taking the family dog for their daily walk.

Ray was a family man with a gracious heart. He will be remembered for his willingness to help others, his humour and quick wit, and how he lit up the room wherever he went. His family will treasure the memories of time shared with him forever.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to one of their most cherished and long-time friends, Christine Hedges. The guidance and care she provided Ray (and the entire family) as a registered nurse during his illness was invaluable and they will be forever grateful.

A celebration of life will be held at the Fort Gary Hotel on April 21st, 2024 at 1:30pm.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to Parkinson Canada (https://www.parkinson.ca) in honour of Ray’s courageous battle with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA), an atypical parkinsonism disorder.

Parkinson Canada’s National Research Program supports researchers around the world who are looking to better understand, develop better treatments, and eventually find a cure for MSA.

  1. Ray was a good man. Spent many a day & night with “the crew” locked in conversation fixing the problems of the world. Hearfelt wishes to his family…rest peacefully my friend

  2. Stanley Charles (Charlie)

“Now Charlie!” Ray would yell as we would hit optimal speed push-starting his old truck down Laval Drive in Fort Richmond. A functioning starter didn’t matter when your 10 year old little brother knew how to dump the clutch, hit the gas, hit the clutch and hit the brake…”Good job Charlie…gotta go, see ya later”.
When Ray was diagnosed with MSA, we all knew this day was coming…but in the end, it all seemed too quick.
Donna, Eric, Alana and Christine …thank you for taking such good care of Ray these past years. Thinking of you (and Natalie and Anthony too) constantly these days.

  3. Ray was a good man and if that sounds like a simple statement it is but to be a good man you have to be a good husband, a good father, a good grandfather, a good friend, a good son and brother. He was all of those, you will be missed Ray.

  4. My sympathies to cousin Raymond’s family, aunt Betty, and all of my western cousins! May you know the Lord’s comfort in your grief!

  5. It was good to visit the family farm where our Mothers grew up with Raymond on a lovely sunny day in November of 2016. I treasure the memories of that trip now more than ever. I will miss him always.

  6. My sincere condolences to Donna, Eric and Alana. May God surround you all with His loving presence in the midst of your grief and pain at the passing of Raymond. He was a cousin to me and I mourn him although because of the distance between Manitoba and Ontario I could only recall a few memories of him. While we were growing up the communications were not as advanced as they are now. He is the first of our cousin group to be called Home by the Lord. I am keeping Aunt Betty and the Family in my prayers. Peace be with you all. Luella de Jong/Klassen

  7. So sorry to hear this very sad news. Condolences to Donna, Eric and Alana and the extended families. Ray was a great person, he lent Rick and I his Lund fishing boat when we were battling the 97 flood. He was a friend whom you could count on to be there to help out. Rest in peace Wiebo. I’ll always remember that smile and can still hear your distinct laugh.

  8. Sincere condolences to Ray’s family, we are very sorry to hear of his illness and passing. As his across the street neighbours for many years, we appreciated Ray’s hellos and chats, and friendly presence in the neighbourhood.

  9. My sincerest condolences to Ray. I always had fun with Ray meeting him through our careers as real estate agents. To say he was a character would be an understatement! His dry sense of humor and his willingness to always strike up a conversation were just a couple of his many characteristics! You will be remembered. RIP in peace my friend.
