Pauline Denise Marie Rose Sansom Nee Droux

Pauline Denise Marie Rose Sansom Nee

June 12, 1948 – March 15, 2022

Pauline passed away peacefully, with family by her side, at the age of 73 years on March 15, 2022. She is survived by her daughters, Tracey Porco (Paul) and Andrea Sansom (Jason); son Scott; grandchildren Gavin, Megan and Ashley; step-son Joey (Barbara); and step-grandchildren Chris and Lizzie. Also to cherish her memory is her father Joseph Droux; siblings Lil (Brian) Ardell, Lawrence Droux, Ron (Joann) Droux, Rita (Mark) Baumeister; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph Sansom; mother Theresa Droux and brother Robert (Bob) Droux.

Pauline was born on June 12, 1948 in Notre Dame de Lourdes to Joseph Droux and Theresa (Avanthay) Droux. She grew up there as well as in St. Lazare and Manitou. The family moved to Winnipeg where she attended Churchill High and Tec Voc. Pauline worked at the Women’s Pavilion as a nurse’s aide and later at Kimberly Clark.

Pauline met Joe, in Lac du Bonnet. They lived in Winnipeg for a short duration and moved to Selkirk in 1974 to raise their family. Pauline was proud of her children whether it was sports, academics, or trades. She also was extremely generous, supplying the neighbourhood children with hot chocolate in winter when they played hockey on the streets, or popsicles in the summer, while the kids played tag, hide and seek and climbed trees. She also provided many a lunch for the working neighbours children.

Pauline loved to garden – flower beds, vegetables you name it, she did it, planting and preserving for the winter ahead. Pauline’s harvest routine with her mother every back to school season was a week + of canning, blanching and making cabbage rolls. Pop, pop, pop went the lids, music to her ears. It came as no surprise she was a terrific cook, made the best Lasagna and sweet and sour meatballs.

Pauline also enjoyed reading. She could start and finish a novel in a day and would often do the Saturday JUMBO’s, sharing and comparing the answers with her father in law in the 70’s. The love of reading, later continued in the form of crosswords and word searches.

Pauline and Joe enjoyed monthly drives to Grand Forks N.D., but Pauline’s home was her castle until she moved 3 years ago, a short time after Joe passed away. It wasn’t an easy decision but the move allowed her to be closer to her siblings and grandchildren. As Covid-19 hit us all with lock downs and restrictions, seeing people in person became a cherished moment which was often too far apart. She had many balcony visits waving and talking on the phone, it was difficult for all. Pauline continued to keep in touch with a few dear school friends, Margaret and Angie as well as her cousin Alain. She also enjoyed visits and calls from her siblings and nieces.

Pauline, had patience and a passion for jigsaw puzzles, the bigger the better. Up until her passing, enjoyed playing cards with the right company. Cribbage, rummy and hearts and boy was she good. When she’d play with her mother they’d often “clean house” next was with Joe followed by her 3 kids, which transitioned to the grandkids. Those Sunday card games will be missed.

As per Pauline’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations can be made in Pauline’s name to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 1160 – 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3E 0V9
