November 23, 1924 – Sept 19, 2021
On September 19, 2021 Oresta left this earth to be with her loved ones, who were patiently awaiting her arrival; her late husband Frank and daughter Lori (2008), brothers Victor (2015) and Valen (2013), sister Olga (1996), mother Ann (1977) and dad Karp (1967).
Left to mourn are: daughter Elaine , grandsons Paul (Elizabeth), Travis (Shawna), Jordan, Jared, and great grandson Spencer. Sister Marge, nephew Daryl (Teresa) and their daughter Nicole. Brother Denis and his family. Sister-in-law Mary and her family and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Written in Oresta’s own words;
“Born on a farm at Pleasant Home Manitoba on November 23,1924, the third eldest child of a family of six. I attended Plum Ridge School finishing at grade 10. I grew up during the lean years of the 1930’s but I always remember having a happy childhood. My parents worked hard to provide a good loving home, everything was organically grown and plenty of it!
My best memories of my childhood are from the winter months when our mother sat in a big rocking chair with the 2 youngest, Marge and Valen on each knee beside a crackling fire stove with us all around her. With a loving heart and a beautiful voice she would sing her heart out until we all fell asleep.
The years went by fast. I ventured into the big city once or twice but I always came back to help out on the farm.
I first met my husband Frank at sister Olga’s wedding in 1940. I had a big crush on him but World War II interfered and we never connected again until the war stopped. We met again in 1946 at a dance at Komarno Hall.
We got married on June 14, 1947 and settled on a farm at Melnice Manitoba where our first daughter Elaine was born.
Trying to get ahead and make a better life for the family, Frank got a job at the Transcona CNR yards and that is where we resided until our last days!
My life on earth is truly past.
I have loved you all to the very last. Keep not for me but courage take.
And love one another for my sake.”
A very hardworking dedicated family woman – Baba you will be deeply missed by everyone here.
In keeping with her wishes no funeral service is planned, with a private family interment to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Cancercare Manitoba.
