April 23, 1937 – May 19, 2022
Peacefully on May 19, 2022, Dad passed away at the age of 85.
He is survived by his wife Frances, sons Thad and David (Kathy), foster children Rob, Amy and Rudy and their families, siblings Louise Fayowski, Lorraine (Leo) Paul and Alexandre Jr. (Doreen), many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Leonard, Edward, Roland, Joseph, Larry, Patrick, Andrew, Rose, Theresa, Florence, Doris and Doreen.
Dad was born to Alexandre and Mary Jane Allary and grew up in St. Eustache, Manitoba in a loving household, full of siblings, laughter and music. He had many fond memories of his childhood. These early years taught him the importance of family and put the love of music in his soul.
He had a generous heart, never hesitating to help people out. Because he was a big kid at heart, his nieces and nephews adored him. He was known for his friendliness and could not go anywhere without someone knowing him.
Mom and Dad had a welcoming home to family members and foster children that lived with them, as well as the boys’ friends. He became a second dad to many of them. He would often join in the ball hockey games going on the basement, taught the boys how to play pool and was a supportive hockey dad.
Dad loved driving and took his family, along with many other family members on road trips over the years. In later years, the road trips continued with Dave at the wheel. We often would take the family for day trips and we would always have a great time.
Anyone that knew Dad, knew he liked his western movies, with his favourite being Rio Bravo. He and Thad could recite the whole movie, as they had seen it so many times. He also enjoyed watching baseball and hockey. Dad enjoyed snacking – his favourites were Cheetos, popcorn and all-dressed chips. It was very rare to see Dad without snacks nearby.
In December, 2018, Dad suffered a stroke and was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s/Dementia. Since he was no longer able to live on his own, he moved into Oakview Place. Some of the things he enjoyed at Oakview were visits from family and friends, spending time in the backyard and pub day. Dad will be missed by the staff at Oakview, as they enjoyed his sense of humour and his spirit.
We would like to thank the 3rd Floor staff at Oakview, especially, Michael, Lloyd, Natalie, April and Dr. Jordan for their compassionate care, kindness and attention they showed Dad over the last few years. A very special thank you to Renee and Denis for allowing us to celebrate Dad’s life at your home.
“Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.” Author: Ron Tranmer
A celebration of life in Dad’s honour will take place on June 18, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Gustaville.
