It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved Wife, Mother, Oma, Sister, Aunt and Friend. Nelly will be deeply missed by her husband of 61 years, Rudy, her daughter Lisa Kirsten (Kent) and son Rob (Mylene). Her grandchildren Bryce, Reagan, Jack and Kate will miss her warm hugs, spending time together baking with her and having the family together at Sunday dinner. Nelly is also survived by her sister Ella (Adam) and brother Alf (Debbie), as well as many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.
Nelly’s gentle, nurturing and loving nature led her to a career in nursing where she demonstrated deep compassion for all those she cared for. She graduated from St. Boniface Nursing School in 1961 and worked at the St. Boniface Hospital as well as the Grace Hospital.
Shortly after graduating, Nelly married the love of her life Rudy in September, 1961 in Winnipeg. They shared a wonderful life together and their love for each other was strong and will endure even in death. They both enjoyed curling and played for decades, while making friends and sharing lots of laughs, wins and losses. Nelly was always keen to dress up in costume with her team during fun bonspiels.
Rudy and Nelly’s love for lake life started right away with a honeymoon at Hilly Lake and for many years after, the family would spend their summers enjoying the bonding that the lake brings. Every summer, the 1967 Mustang was packed to the roof, with the kids squeezed in the back between suitcases, while we spent time on the road just being a close family. So many great memories were created at Hilly Lake and many a late night was spent around the poker table, winning and losing, and enjoying the company of friends.
A dream to own their own summer place quickly took hold and in 1982 that dream was realized with the purchase of our summer camp at Trout Lake. This was Nelly’s “Happy Place”. Some of our best memories are of the lake and usually involved great chats while blueberry picking, Nelly out-fishing Rudy and winning at poker. She always had some great baking for everyone after the poker game which her friends enjoyed over great conversation and laughs. Her children and grandchildren could always count on fresh, just out of the oven, blueberry muffins or chocolate chip cookies awaiting us as we pulled up to the cabin. She displayed her love for her family through cooking and baking, and did we ever enjoy the love she gave.
The next time you deal a deck of cards, sip a cool drink on the dock or enjoy a chocolate chip cookie think of our beloved Wife, Mother and Oma. We know we will. She will be deeply missed.
Your love and legacy will be carried by all who you touched and cared for. Until we are together again.
The family wishes to thank the staff at West Park Manor Personal Care home for their care of our beloved wife, mother and Oma for the last two and a half years during trying times with the pandemic.
Cremation has taken place and a private family ceremony will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Nelly’s name to the Alzheimers Society of Manitoba.

Sorry Rudy to hear of Peggy’s passing. Remember her from MVB curling. Always looking like
a million bucks and with a smile for everyone. Take care my friend.
Nelly was a third year nursing student at St. B when I was a first year student. At that time I only knew her as a senior student who was to be respected by the junior students. After I graduated she and I worked together in the Grace Hospital OR. I remember her as being kind and gentle with me, the new grad. Throughout the passing years as I have reflected on my life’s experiences, I have remembered Nelly from the OR at the Grace. My sympathy to you all.
Sincerely,
Herta (Rempel) Janzen
So sorry to hear of your loss. Nell and Rudy were such a large presence at Trout Lake for so many years. Nell will be fondly remembered for years to come.

I know she will be dearly missed.

Nelly and Rudy were neighbours once upon a time..
Nelly was amazing – she could do more house cleaning in one morning then I could do in a fortnight.
She also made the best cakes in the world. She made a beautiful Barbie cake in little pink flowers for Kristin .
But my favourite was Rudy”s birthday cake. Rudy and I shared the same birthday, so I always got a piece of this
wonderful torte. Once we moved , we lost touch ,but I always will remember her beautiful soul.
Rest in peace beautiful lady . Sincere sympathies to your family .
