With heavy, but full hearts, we celebrate the life of Nadene Demkowsky (affectionately known as Muga), who passed away comfortably with family by her side on May 1, 2025, at the age of 78 after a lengthy, but courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Up until the end, Mom gave the best hugs and held onto her sense of humour and desire to help. Though we miss her deeply, we are comforted knowing she will be reunited with all her predeceased pets who she loved and missed dearly.
Proud and devoted mother of three, Mom’s greatest joys in her life were always her children, Lori (Darrin), Candice (Sanjay), and Sara (Nathan), grandchildren, Breanne, Megan, Lauren, Mya, Aidan, Jagger, and Sebastian and of course her beloved pets. She valued her family more than anything and treated her dearest friends, Maurice, Paulette, Réal, Stephanie, and Makaila like a part of the family too.
Her loved ones were her whole heart; she loved her children and grandchildren so purely and deeply. Never wanted to be called “grandma” because that was “too old” and she was “way too young to be grandma”. First born granddaughter, Breanne, learning to talk called her “Muga” and that became her forever nickname.
In true Muga fashion, she took great pride and poured her heart into everything she did. Whether she was expressing her love for her children, grandchildren, or pets – Muga was all-in. She especially showed her love through her helpfulness. From baking to cleaning and of course, babysitting, she always had a way to help. Her pancakes, lasagna, and Kentucky Butter cake were family favourites. She was a trained hairdresser, but also a kind, conscientious and dedicated high school secretary. Her passion, kindness and generosity were cherished by staff and students alike.
One of Muga’s favourite pastimes was visiting her sister Linda and favourite brother-in-law Bill at their home in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. Her visits included Bill’s boat rides, dancing to Rod Stewart, Olivia Newton-John and Linda Ronstadt, wine, and tons of laughter alongside Linda while Bill shared his outrageous and comical stories.
Mom cherished all the time she shared with her good friend and confidant, Maurice. Whether it was long drives to the Whiteshell to enjoy a walk along the trails, spending time with the cows at the farm, or simply grabbing some breakfast together. Mom valued their time together, treasured his company and loved with all her heart. Muga also thoroughly enjoyed her Friday nights with her best friend, Paulette (and Réal). Many evenings were spent perfecting a new craft, sharing a glass of wine, and of course some more dancing. She lovingly shared her homemade gifts with everyone she loved on special occasions or just because.
We cannot express how grateful we are to have had some truly wonderful nurses, health care aides and companion looking after Mom at Riverview Health Centre. We would not have been able to care for Mom, provide her with the amount of love, attention, and support she needed without all of you. Your care and kindness meant the world to us. Dianne, Selam, Colleen, Janessa, Mel, Carla, Jo, Eric and many more. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Muga, we love you more than words can say, and not a day will go by that we will not miss you. Your laughter, your love, and your presence will always be with us. Until we meet again, you will live on in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or to an animal rescue of your choosing.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place, and no formal service will be held.

We will miss her she loved you girls and family
I am so grateful for knowing Nadene. Lori and I, along with our Moms spent many evenings together over the years enjoying wine while we chatted and laughed. We even went to Vegas together to see Olivia Newton John. I have so many special memory of that trip that I will cherish deeply.
My condolences to Lori, Candace and Sara and your families.
