With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Mitchell Erik Guttormson on July 24, 2024, at the tender age of 28.
Mitchell leaves behind a grieving family and a multitude of friends. He is survived by his loving mother Nancy; devoted father Garth; stepmom Renate; beloved brother Jeff (Jasmine); and his girlfriend Dana. He also leaves his grandparents Nestor and Cynthia; his aunt Darlene; uncles Mike and Doug; and cousins Ben, Ali, Desta, and Thomas to mourn his loss. Mitchell was predeceased by his grandparents Jonas and Margret, and his stepdad Carlos.
Mitchell grew up alongside his brother Jeff and showcased his talent as a soccer player during his school years. He had a passion for riding the Quad at Nutimik Lake, a love that he carried into his teenage years. His enthusiasm for skateboarding was unparalleled, amassing a collection of boards that reflected his dedication. A graduate of West Kildonan Collegiate in 2014, Mitchell maintained a close-knit group of friends, sharing countless adventures snowboarding in the Rockies, exploring various lakes, and making memories in Libau.
Pursuing a career in plumbing, Mitchell studied at Red River College and worked as a Level 3 Apprentice for A&P Plumbing. Though it wasn’t his dream job, he persevered to complete his training. One of Mitchell’s greatest passions was traveling. He embraced spontaneity, often packing a backpack and embarking on journeys. His travels took him across Canada, the US, Switzerland (where he snowboarded in the Alps), Mexico, Cuba, Thailand, and most recently, Japan.
Mitchell had a profound love for animals, shared with his loyal dog Ryder, his cats Skinny and Kitty, and his gerbil Ratatouille. His caring nature extended to even the wild, once attempting to nurture baby rabbits brought in by his cat.
Mitchell was the epitome of a loving son, brother, grandson, boyfriend, friend, nephew, and cousin. His emotional depth, humor, loyalty, sensitivity, and thoughtfulness left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was adventurous, always ready for a laugh, and fiercely loved those close to him.
Despite his struggles, we are immensely grateful for the time we had with him. His memory will evoke laughter, tears, and everything in between. He will be deeply missed and forever held in our hearts.
Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave at Henderson Hwy.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association or the charity of one’s choice.
Mitchell, we love you and are eternally grateful for the moments we shared. It’s not “Goodbye,” but “See you later.” Fly High, Sweet Angel

A most beautiful tribute to Mitchell showing the deep loving regard he was surrounded by. And displaying a beautiful ability to express that. In writing.

So very sorry for your loss Garth. Healing takes time 💔. RIP to your son.
My name is Justin, and Mitch began his plumbing career working under me at A&P Plumbing, when he first began,
My initial thought was he is not cut out for this, however he followed instruction well and was very eager to learn, I could depend on Mitch, I would give him a task and it didn’t matter what that task was, from unloading a semi full of one piece showers, to loads of pipe, two digging trenches for days on end, and he didn’t with a smile, never complained, not once. I’m not going to lie I had a soft spot for him, and it was no secret around the shop. He had some pretty funny stories from all his adventures he went on, he told them with such enthusiasm and detail he would have you in stitches laughing. I won’t get into them. R-rating. Lol. Mitch my man, this is not the outcome you deserved, this one hurts, crushed really. I hope you have found the emptiness you have been looking for, see you in next one!!! Love Justin.
Very nice to read, thank you Justin.
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Garth and Mitchell’s entire extended family. I am so very sorry for your loss. He is in God’s hands now but I know that is small comfort to those left behind. I will be keeping Mitchell and his loving family in my prayers. May God bless all of you.

Nestor, Cynthia and Nancy.
We didn’t know the entire family. We’ve been friends with Nestor and Cynthia for many years and have had the pleasure of meeting Nancy just recently.
We are deeply sorry to hear of the loss of your son and grandson, Erik. He sounded like a lovable young man and 28 is certainly too young to be taken, but the Lord makes choices and doesn’t only take the elderly but needs some young ones in his mix.
Our deepest condolences

We embrace and hold you
In our hearts – in our thoughts – in our life

I only met Mitchell a couple of times at Guttormson family reunions and most recently at the funeral for his grandfather Jonas.
I learned a lot more about his life and accomplishments for his obituary. He did a lot during his short life that his parents and brother Jeff should be proud of. I wish the family and friends all the best in this most difficult time.
