Marie Rose Dary

Marie Rose Dary
1936 – 2025

Marie Dary passed away January 10, 2025 with family at her bedside.

Marie (Rose) will be remembered by sister’s Elsie (Andy), Donna, Fern, Janet (Jim), nephew’s Steve (Val), Shawn, extended family and dear friends.

If you met her, she would have introduced herself to you as Marie, and you would have met her impeccably attired and presented. She bore herself with a serious demeanor adopted through decades of her professional career with the CN Railway and the Manitoba Government. Marie never missed anything and never forgot anything, if it was worth doing; she did it with the precision of a professional.

If you knew her, you may have known her as Rose. A North End kid, Norquay School alumni, and a St. John’s Tiger. Maybe you knew her at a little green cottage near the shore of Lake Winnipeg sporting a tilly hat, trowel in hand and puttering in her garden. You knew how she and her husband Ray adventured together for decades, through dating and marriage in the old neighbourhood, through many friendships, many countries, and many challenges late in life. You may have known her as witty and funny. She may have been your family or your friend; she may have been your mentor who was interested in how you were doing. You knew for sure you had someone who would ride out a storm with you or share and celebrate the good times with you. You’ll remember her at her best as your sister, auntie, friend, or neighbour.

Usque ad Astra, surely, she is closer today than she has ever been. Marie was predeceased by her parents, husband Ray, brother Reg. According to Marie’s wishes there will be no service.

In lieu of flowers please consider donations to St. Boniface hospital or any local food bank.

  1. My sincerest condolences to Marie’s family and friends upon her recent passing. Marie was a next door neighbour of mine for a number of years and I always enjoyed our hall way talks and chats involving a number of topics. She was that rare person who actually listened to everything you said and was honestly interested in hearing how things were with you in your life. I remembered how she made friends with numerous other folks on our floor and always had several minutes to engage during her walks down the hallway. One of my new passions post retirement was cooking new recipes or modifying standards and we had fun exchanging notes. It was fun providing her samples of some of my “experiments” ranging from seafood chowders to variations of garlic marinated prime rib roasts (and looking forward to her texts on whether my attempts at cooking up experimental dishes “passed mustard”). And it was also a highlight to smell the wonderful aromas of her cooking coming though her door out into the aisle ! The best memories in life are often the interactions you have with friends during the day or week who brighten up your day no matter the challenges. Marie was one of those people and I will very much miss her.
