Marie Louise Germaine Montreuil

Marie Louise Germaine Montreuil

May 14, 1936 – April 19, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Marie Louise Germaine Montreuil (formerly Rawson). She died peacefully on April 19, 2025, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Marie was born on May 14, 1936, in Neelin, Manitoba, to Ernestine Helene Morisseau and Francois Xavier Montroy. She remembered fondly growing up on the family farm with her three brothers, the close community of Neelin, and hanging out with her 57 cousins. She married and moved to The Pas in 1957, where she raised her family, was active with The Royal Canadian Legion, and developed her talents in many areas. She lived in Woodlands, Manitoba from 1977 to 1980 and then moved to Winnipeg, where she worked as a family support worker until she was 85.

She loved music and dancing; she often went to fun and fiddle festivals. She had a talent for listening to music and teaching herself how to play them on her piano. Her creative gifts included sewing, quilting, gardening, knitting, various art activities, intricate embroidery, and carrying on family traditions. She had a knack for excelling at anything she tried. People fondly remember her perogies, cabbage rolls, butter tarts and Christmas pudding sauce.

She is survived by her brother Floyd (Marge); three children, Patricia, Dale (Renee) and Penny (Brent); four grandchildren Ryan (Julie), Aimée (Eric), Jamie (Lindsay) and Josh (Michaela); and seven great-grandchildren, Benji, Alex, Tyler, Easton, Emerson, Hensley, Zealand. She is lovingly remembered by her friends Carol and Lorna. She was predeceased by two sons, Dwayne and Darwin Michael, her mother and father and two brothers, Edward and Bernard.

Those who knew Marie will remember her keen curiosity, warmth, sense of humor, practical resilience, strong work ethic, vibrant spirit and love of animals.

A church service will be held at 1 pm on May 14, 2025, at the St. Denis Parish in Haywood, Manitoba, followed by interment at the Haywood Cemetery. Please join us for a luncheon and celebration of her life at the Haywood Hall after the interment.
