It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Luigi D’Abramo on February 7, 2022. He died at the age of 82 surrounded by loved ones after struggling with health issues for several weeks.
Luigi is survived by his wife, Maria (Petrillo); children Emily (Franco), Gino (Summer) and Marianne (Andrew); grandchildren Luciana (Chris) and Robbie (Miranda); great-grandchildren Anthony, Teagan and Sophia; brother Nick; sister Angela; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born September 22, 1939, Luigi immigrated to Canada from Campochiaro, Italy on March 29, 1953 in search of a better life. Settling in Winnipeg, Manitoba, he began working in the restaurant and hospitality industry. Eventually, he met Maria, the love of his life and they married on July 1, 1961. Around this time and after years of hard work, he opened Luigi’s Restaurant and Catering on Erin Street which is still in operation to this day. Luigi enjoyed great success over the years in his restaurant and catering business and took great pride in cooking for his customers, family, and friends.
Outside of his work life, Luigi loved vacationing in Mexico each winter, spending time poolside at his home and at the beach with his family. He also had a passion for cigars, cars and boating. In addition, he enjoyed gardening and tending to his ongoing home and yard projects. He spoiled his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren over the years with many outings and family trips that will always hold special memories in their hearts.
Luigi will be greatly missed by his family as well as customers who could always count on delicious food, a warm smile, and a family atmosphere whenever they would visit his establishment.

My Friend Luigi,
When we shook hands on Dec.24th to wish each other a Merry Christmas, I never thought it would be the last time I ever see you. So many special hours we spent together talking, it was a great time. You often mentioned how you love your family and how difficult it would be without them. Now they are without you, you left a big void and your family and friends are feeling the emptiness. You were a hard working strong minded and determined person. You always got back up after every blow life dealt you. You conquered cancer a couple of years ago but this time around, it was different. God had an alternate plan for you. He wanted you Home, free from hard work, pains and hardship. Now as you left this earthly Life for the Eternal Life in Heaven, knowing you, you will still keep yourself busy. One day with God’s Grace we will meet again in His Kingdom. You likely started another business , ” LUIGI’S HEAVENLY CATERING” $ 13.95, no tax ….,delivery included.
That was very beautiful hannes ,
He loved you dearly and always valued your opinion .
Thankyou ,
Emily
I will remember him on his lawn tractor, pulling his trailer with a cigar in his mouth and enjoying his time driving around. In our hearts forever.
