November 1955 – December 2020

It is with great sadness that the family of Linda Becham Vermette announces her sudden passing on December 29, 2020.

Linda was born in Dauphin Manitoba on November 7,1955 and spent much of her childhood in Churchill Manitoba. She briefly moved to Winnipeg before settling in Calgary Alberta where she worked for Alberta Telephones before attending SAIT for broadcasting. She went on to do sports and news radio broadcasting. Upon returning to Winnipeg where most of her family had settled, she was involved in the television and film industry. She truly enjoyed her time working in the industry often for CBC, APTN and many independent projects. She spent a short time with Manitoba Lotteries before she went on to finish off her career with Revenue Canada. Retiring in April of 2018. She married her long-time love and companion Michael Lloyd Becham in January of 2004.

Linda had many friends that she loved to spend time with especially outdoors and around a nice fire. Many of her former coworkers had become long-time friends who she enjoyed meeting for lunch and coffee. Watching the Winnipeg Blue Bombers with her friends and brothers was a favoured pastime. She enjoyed traveling and loved tropical vacations. Mexico being one of her and Mike’s favourite destinations.

She is predeceased by her father Edwin Vermette and her husband Michael Becham on January11, 2019. As well as their beloved dogs Bob and George.

Linda leaves to mourn her mother Gisele Vermette of Dauphin. Her brothers Greg and John of Winnipeg, her sister Darlene (husband Kevin Tosczak) of Calgary. As well as her many nieces and nephews Pamela Vermette (Preston) and Sheldon Vermette (Aidan, Ava, Casey, Laila May) of Gimli, Lana Archambault (husband Guy, with Jace and Juliette) of Toronto, Tamara Tosczak (Roy) and Cole Tosczak also of Calgary.

The family will have a private service due to COVID. Those wishing to send condolences are welcome to send them to Voyage Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in Linda’s honor to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

A celebration of life will be organised in the summer when it’s allowed. She will be dearly missed.

We are so sorry to hear of Linda’s passing. We shared a Churchill childhood and for a brief period we lived together while we attended school in Winnipeg. She was a fun friend and a great roommate. Maureen and Leonard Osland

All the family in France is sad and has many thoughts to Linda’s mother, brothers and sister in this difficult time. Her Mother Gisèle was a cousin of my grandfather. Linda was such a sweet person, we have always been in contact since I came to Winnipeg in 1987. I was seventeen when she found me a placement near Kenora, and felt at home when staying at her place. I will remember Linda as a happy person who will continue to whisper some good words in my ear, still I will miss her. My mother Annie will organize a celebration at the church for Linda.
All my condolences to the family.

  4. Linda holds a special place in my heart and I am so sad to hear about her passing. I remember the first time I met Linda in Inuvik, NWT. I was new to town and we became great friends and shared many good times. We both moved away from Inuvik, Linda moved to Calgary and I moved to Edmonton but we kept in touch. When I decided to move to Calgary, Linda helped me get established and I worked with her at AGT. We spent a lot of time together during those years, we even went on camping trips to the mountains in her little blue car. When I moved back to Edmonton and we tried to keep in touch as much as we could. On Linda’s 55th birthday we decided to get together in Las Vegas. We had a blast. Linda was so pleased that she now qualified for discounts as a senior and took every opportunity to get her senior discount. In November, we spoke about taking another trip together to celebrate Linda’s 65th birthday by going back to Inuvik. It breaks my heart that we will not be able to take that trip. Linda was a wonderful lady and will be missed by so many. Rest in peace my dear friend, until we meet again.
    Condolences to the family,

  5. I was saddened to hear of Linda’s passing. Growing up in Churchill, we spend many hours together, getting into trouble or what young girls get up to. We had recently reconnected since my move to Winnipeg. My deepest condolences to Gisele, Greg, Johnny, Darlene and family. May she soar high and watch over those she loved.

  7. I am very sorry to hear of Linda’s Passing as she was a childhood friend of mine in Churchill also. Linda was a lively, fun person to hang around with for sure! One time a few of us girls were taking pictures in Linda’s back-yard (or a neighbor’s)and there was an old Truck up-side down. One of us suggested, that we should pose inside the truck, as if we had been in an accident. I will share this funny photo when I locate it, even though it was goofy! We all laughed a lot back then about doing this, but truly enjoyed the mischief too! Both silly and fun times were shared by all her friends whom knew her in Churchill. In reading her beautiful memorial-obit, it is a testament of her kindness and friendship she shared with all walks of life. It looks she experienced many avenues, during her short lifetime. She certainly left footprints in all of our Hearts and will be missed by all whom knew and loved her! Heartfelt sorrow, goes out to Giselle, Greg, John, Darlene and all her friends. I am so sorry to hear about Linda’s passing. I was her hairdresser, she was such a beautiful person inside and out. She always came into our visits radiating with a smile and such positivity. She truly was a wonderful woman, I have nothing but good things to say about her and it sadens my heart that we won’t have any more visits together.
My condolences to the family. Rest in Peace Linda, you will be missed but never forgotten.
