Lina Cecile Siwak nee Larocque

Lina Cecile Siwak nee Larocque

August 26, 1941 – April 25, 2025

Peacefully, with her husband by her side, Lina passed away on April 25, 2025, at the age of 83, following a lengthy battle with cancer.

She will be forever cherished by her husband Lawrence, with whom she just celebrated 61 years of marriage on April 4. She will also be lovingly remembered by their children, Suzanne (Grant), Gwen (Chris), Cindy (Tony) and Brian; grandchildren, Kristen, Reece and Taylor; sisters, Lorraine (Rosaire), Yolande (Albert) and Angele; brother Noel (Elaine); sisters-in-law, Beulah and Inez (Bill); as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Lina was predeceased by her parents, Jeanne and Ernest; in-laws, Anne and Maryon; sisters, Florise (Felix), Estelle (Alan), Fernande, Rhea (Lazare), Claire (Alex), Jeannine (Jim), Aline (Werner) and Marie (Harold); brothers, Roland and Robert (Darlene); and brother-in-law Ernest.

Lina was born August 26, 1941, in Rainy River, ON, and grew up a short distance away in Pinewood. After marrying Lawrence in 1964, they moved several times with Lawrence’s job at CN. They lived in several towns in rural Manitoba and Ontario, finally residing in Winnipeg in 1979.

Lina was a caring person who worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for 40 years. She started her career working in hospitals but found her true calling caring for the elderly in personal care homes. She maintained friendships over the years with many of her classmates and co-workers.

In 1987, Lina and Lawrence bought a second home in Pinewood and spent many days there, fishing, playing cards, and visiting with family and friends. Lina also enjoyed making puzzles, playing bingo and solitaire, 5-pin bowling and even doing crosswords and sudokus until her final days. She was an avid sports fan, watching the Winnipeg Jets and Blue Bombers, Toronto Blue Jays and any curling events.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren in Winnipeg, Pinewood, and Minneapolis. There was always time for sleepovers, gardening, crafts, movies, and the grandchildren’s sports and school events.

The family would like to thank Dr. Goldenberg and Dr. Beshara. We would also like to thank the many doctors, nurses, and health care aides and the 3E Palliative Unit at Riverview Health Centre, who cared for Lina in her final days. We appreciate the care and compassion Lina received during her illness.

A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, May 23, 2025, at 11:30 a.m., at St. John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, 3390 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. Interment will follow at a later date in Pinewood, ON.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

  1. Lawrence & Family,
Grief is the gift of memory says Rita Mae Brown “I will miss those I love who are no longer with me but I am
grateful for having loved them. The gratitude has finally conquered the loss.”
Not today perhaps. Time is a great healer.
Times that I spent with Lina here in B.C. and over the phone I cherish.
