Leonel Cunha Vaz

November 30, 1935 – November 14, 2020 

It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Leonel Cunha Vaz, on November 14th, 2020. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Maria; his sons Fernando, Simplicio and Jose Luis (Dora); his precious grandchildren Christopher (Julie), Susanne, Elena and Gabriella; his sisters Maria Martins, Alcina Canto and Ilda Castro; brother-in-law Jose Luis Martins (Nezia) and sister-in-law Diane Vaz; his four Great Grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Sebastiao and Beatriz Vaz, brother Fernando Vaz; sister Evangelista Vaz and Granddaughter Carla Hakim.

Leonel was born in São Julião, Valença, Portugal on November 30th, 1935. He immigrated to Canada in February of 1960 settling in Winnipeg.

When he arrived in Winnipeg his work endeavours included working as a Taxi/Limo driver before owning his own Portuguese Club.

Leonel enjoyed hunting, playing dominos, watching soccer and spending his time at his son’s club

Cremation has taken place. Due to Covid 19 restrictions a private viewing will be held for family only.
