Laurel Chaykowski

Laurel Chaykowski
1955 – 2021

With great sadness we announce the passing of Laurel Isobel Chaykowski, 65 of Beausejour, Mb

She was born October 15, 1955 in Portage la Prairie, Mb to David and Evelyn Glover. Laurel had many accomplishments and passions in so many fields with her latest adventure being finishing her book and writing her blog.

Laurel is survived by her husband Randy; sons Roger (Christina) and Guy (Shannon); grandkids Danja, RJ (Ronald Jean), Katrina, Caitlin, Shawn, Cullyn, Jenna, Skye, and Connor; great-grandchild Aurelia and siblings, D’Arcy (Francis), Neil (Cindy), Tim, Brad, Danny, Susie and Marina.

Laurel was a very easy woman to please. She loved her family and friends more than anything. If you could stop by for 5minutes or 5 hours she would be over the moon. Next was her fur babies. Just as her grandkids they could do no wrong and there was never such a thing of too many treats.

Laurel loved a simple life. The love of reading and writing, baking and cooking, crafting, natural remedies, nature, animals and a love to help those who were less fortunate.

Laurel is finally at peace and not in pain anymore. Doing all the things she could not do.

The family will be continuing Laurel’s Facebook checking it and posting in it as well. Please feel free to share stories about her or things you know she would have loved.

Laurel will be forever missed 💙💙💙

  1. The year was 1961. Laurel and I were six and seven years old respectively. One cold January morning we set out from the little tarpaper shack we lived in to go to school. The temperature was about -40 degrees. Our tiny little steps were getting tinier by the moment. Then I spotted a large culvert and said to Laurel: “Let’s go in there out of the wind”. Her and I crawled in and cuddled each other for warmth and prepared for the end. Just then, I heard our salvation in the form of lots of other kids’ voices! All of a sudden, my teacher appeared at the end of the culvert and she said to come out. We both got escorted to the school where we were treated to a big bowl of hot soup in the teachers’ cafeteria. No student lunchroom in those days. Went back to our classes afterwards and finished out the day. Our teacher was kind enough to give us a ride home after school.
It never ceases to amaze me as to how tough my sister was, and not only in a physical sense. She faced adversity through her life in the same tough fashion. But you know, I think her greatest strength was being who she was, a very kind and understanding person. Thanks for the cuddle, Laurel. I’ve never forgotten, and I never will.

I am truly very sorry for your loss, I met Laurel and Randy when they adopted Riggs from JAR, I had enjoyed our many hours of visiting and seeing how Riggs blossom in Laurel’s love for him. Rest in Peace my dear friend. I will miss you.

  3. Worked with laurel many years ago at CN and was impressed with her kind words and determination. Would like to pass along my condolences to her family, especially Neal, Roger and Guy.

My grandma had a heart of gold most selfless person you’d meet in your entire life love her and miss her everyday, she’s happy now.

  5. It’s been almost 3 month’s since we lost her and not a day goes by that I don’t cry. No words can be said to just how special of a person my mom was. She loved her family, friends and her pets so much, and was always looking for ways to help improve their quality of life. She started a blog “according to nana” with recipes, craft ideas and with information to help people in the only way she could. Everything she put up on there that might involve purchasing something to do, she would put up ways on how to do it for people who couldn’t afford it. The world has lost an amazing, thoughtful, kind , smart and very caring person, wife, mother and grandmother (nana). I lost the only person who truly understands me. I love you and miss you mom.
