Jan. 13, 1942 – Aug. 14, 2020
With a heavy heart we announce the passing of our beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Aunt. Kirsten passed peacefully with her family at her side after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease.
Kirsten was predeceased by her parents Svend and Henny Damsgaard, Uncle Egon Hansen and Aunt Sigrid Hansen. She leaves to mourn her husband David; children Susanne and Paul; grandchildren Tate and Tyler; brother Lars (Annette) Damsgaard; children Lotta and Ulrick; niece Debbie Bell (Mark); children Jennifer and Steven; close friends Thorkild (Solveig) Kristensen as well as many in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
At the age of 22, Kirsten left Vejle, Denmark where she was born and raised to come to Canada. This was when she not only learned to speak English but fell in love with the love of her life David. They spent an amazing 54 years together traveling and enjoying life to the fullest. They often spent winters in Arizona spoiling their grandchildren and frequently travelled with family and friends to many wonderful destinations. Kirsten also had a great love of animals, especially dogs and spent countless hours with her daughter’s dogs and numerous foster dogs.
After raising her children until they were school age, she began her career working for the Winnipeg School Division NO.1 where she worked for over 20 years. During her time with the school district, she made many wonderful and lifelong friends that she stayed in touch with until her last days.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Concordia Hospital and her home care attendants for their kindness and support. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held when family and friends are able to safely travel. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the Before The Bridge Senior K9 Rescue at www.beforethebridge.ca

Dear Dave and family,
It is with heavy heart that I offer my sincerest condolences on behalf of myself and my family. I recall the huge smile on your face the day you came home and told us about this wonderful girl you had met. That name, Kirsten, has kept that smile on your face for over 50 years. I can empathize with you as we both share the same type of lose. My memory goes back to that same time as we had the pleasure of Kirsten being in our wedding party. “Death leaves a heartache no-one can heal, and love leaves a memory no-one can steal.”

Kris was a beautiful person, who will be missed by all who knew her.
Dear Dave,
I was very sorry to learn of Kirsten’s passing.
Although I really only got a glimpse of your dedication — I have never forgotten how you would literally glow when you spoke of her, and how still and quiet you became when you spoke of her illness.
My sincere and heartfelt condolences to you and your family.
Take care.
