February 17, 1977, to May 20, 2024
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Paul (J.P.) Shearer on May 20, 2024, at the age of 47.
He is survived by his wife Sylvie; son Rhys; daughter Isla, mother Janet; and sister Rebecca. He is also deeply mourned by his parents-in-law Jean & Carole; sisters-in-law Raissa (Dan), Amelie (Stella), Solange (Steve); and by his niece Charlotte and nephew Arlo.
We take comfort in knowing that he was welcomed by his beloved father, John Sr, good friend Jayson, and several other friends and family members who have been dearly missed.
Born and raised in Kitchener, Ontario, J.P. relocated to Winnipeg in 2002 with his family to pursue a business endeavor. Together the Shearer family ran several businesses and employed hundreds of people who were proud to work for the Shearer group. When Winnipeg became home, a piece of J.P.’s heart always remained with his Ontario family and childhood friends with whom he stayed close.
J.P. brightened every room with his contagious laughter and his gift for turning the everyday into a story worth telling. A lifelong foodie and lover of strange food that made Sylvie cringe, his friends and family lined up to be invited to one of his famous 10 course meals or new BBQ experiment.
From a young age his passion for spending time on the water was an endless source of fish stories, and a love that he shared with his mom and passed on to his children. A dedicated sports dad, J.P. was a constant presence at the hockey rink and a coach to his son’s Lacrosse team; often proudly sporting multi-colored nails painted by his little princess. Over two decades of partnership J.P. and Sylvie built a big and wonderful life they loved, and raising their children together was their greatest joy.
The family would like to thank the family members, friends and colleagues who supported them along this journey, along with the caring and dedicated staff at HSC Hospital, Cancer Care Manitoba and Palliative Care Manitoba.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be taking place on June 10th, 2024, at The Leaf, Assiniboine Park, in Winnipeg. Guests welcome at 12:30pm; service at 1:00pm; cocktail reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in John Paul’s name to Palliative Care MB or the Tim Horton Foundation.

A candle that burns twice as bright may only burn half as long. All the best – the Johnstone’s.
Sounds like a wonderful man!! Hoping that the love and memories that you have shared live in your hearts forever!! Our Greatest Condolences.
Our fishing trips started in high-school and took us all the way to the rivers of BC. Going to miss our BBQ feedback sessions and seafood dinners. Condolences to everyone JP meant something to, and there were many. Rest easy my friend.
My heart goes out to JP’s family. JP’s joy filled the room and his smile was contagious. He will be greatly missed.
Our hearts are broken for your loss Sylvie. J.P. was such a shining light, we will never forget his laugh, his zest for life, his love for his family – this beautifully encapsulates his larger-than-life personality, and our lives are better for having him in them. All our love ❤️

I was very sad to hear this devastating news. JP and myself worked closely during his time at RRC prior to my retirement. JP was one of the most upbeat people I’ve met in business and was always looking forward to his next business challenge. My sincere condolences to his family at this difficult time.
Sorry to hear this

RIP buddy!
We have been so fortunate to have had such a loving, caring and out-going nephew. We will miss him dearly and he will always be in our hearts. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the family and friends. Love Aunt Lynda and Uncle John.
We were fortunate last year to spend time with JP in Ont. We especially enjoyed John’s exuberance and joy when discussing his love of fishing and preparing fabulous meals for family and friends. We will miss those instagrams sharing his latest meals and recommendation’s .
John expressed his greatest source of joy and pride and that was his family. So proud to share their latest accomplishments of his children! JP will be greatly missed .
Our thoughts are with family as you grieve this loss. At a recent memorial service it was said by the Chaplain that “grief is love with no where to go”. As you grieve may you find comfort in many beautiful memories .
Sincerely
Jean & Brian ♥️
