On November 27, 2019, John peacefully passed away at the Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg.

He was predeceased by his parents Bridget (Purdie) and John; his siblings Eileen, Maureen, Mildred, Frederick and Gerald; and his wife Bernice. He is survived by his two stepdaughters.

John came from Dublin to Canada in 1951, where he worked in Grand Prairie, Alberta. He arrived in Winnipeg in 1952 and worked many jobs to pay his way through University to earn his B.A., M.A., B.E., M.Ed. degrees. John taught at many schools throughout Manitoba as both a teacher and a lecturer with the Brandon University. He was a member of the Korea Veterans Association of Canada and exercised his love of history by acting as a volunteer historian; an Honorary Archivist of the Royal Military Institute of Manitoba; and past President of the Local Teacher’s Association. John spent many happy years travelling with Bernice, attending the legion and playing golf. Special memories were at Oakwood Golf Course and Assiniboine Forest.

Many thanks to special friend Randy and to the staff at Deer Lodge Centre for their excellent care.

As per John’s wishes, no formal service will be held.
